Edit : Speyside 14 (M) 2011 #20 vs 2010 #16 Aroma: #20 stronger and sharper feeling of alcohol vs #16 more fruity, velvety, smooth Taste: in opposite way, #20 more fruitienes and "marlmelade" intensity in comparison with #16 more wood cask driven and especially dry wood aftertaste. Summary: the differences are not huge, Ver. 2010 is more oak cask driven, ver. 2011 is more PX sherry maturation driven. Everyone can choose his own organoleptic preferences :) Original review: Speyside (M), Andrew Symington's small batch version of The Macallan bottled at 48.2% ABV. Which one is better? 14yo (#16, PX) vs 15yo (#18, Oloroso) vs 15yo (#19), all bottled 2025/26, matured in a combination of 1st and 2nd fill Oloroso Butt or PX. The youngest bears all the signs of the dense fruitiness of Mac (malt, honey, delicate nuttiness, sweet oranges, caramel), it is not immature or unnecessarily dried out by oak woodiness. The middle one raises the bar of intensity, honey-like density, but without a hint of woody dryness, juicy even in the finish, unlike the last one, which is wrapped in a wooden skin and in the finish transitions into oak dryness. The differences are not big, but noticeable. For me, the middle one wins, as the most balanced contestant. Btw, the distillery's 15yo at double the price should be very ashamed!

First time trying speyside m series. I am not a fan of Macallan but this bottle is very different to their official lineups and it was quite special dram for me.

Вкус	82	starts with sweet sherry notes(dried grape) and some vanilla/honey. it has little spicy notes but its very mild and smooth for its abv. But there is no outstanding notes from the taste
Финиш	83	Finish does not last that long. But there is light finish that comes from the PX sherry. there is some grape and dark berry finish

Sweet ripe fruits, nuts and dark chocolate. Sweeter on the palate than on the nose. Quite complex. Sherry influence not overwhelming and well-balanced.

Bought this one to compare with the Macallan En Primeur I recently opened..... Well the best similarity is that this one is also 14 years old. Everything else is different and not for the better

Нос	86	Very heavy sherry notes on the nose. Loads of dried plum and raisins. There is also a hint of chocolate here. But it feels like there is a very wet cask in play.
Вкус	84	Sweet, candylike. Soft arrival, little bit silky. Red fruits, strawberries and raspberries. After a while quite some dried plum. Not much depth, sherry cask mainly.
Финиш	83	Short-medium length. Loads of sherry fruits which fade away remarkable quickly. Not real flaws in the finish, yet nothing really very good either.

This Speyside M has an attractive nose. In fact, the nose is the best part here. Chocolate hazelnut paste, applesauce, strawberries and blueberries to start with. Then dried leaves, caramel cappuccino and cracked black pepper adding a fair bit if depth. It’s sweet, slightly autumnal and rather inviting at first. In the finish is where the alcohol becomes more present. That takes away some of the charm. Still an enjoyable dram, but based on that it doesn’t fully deliver on the promise of the nose. Worth the money though.

A very delicate and interesting version of ‘M’ - drinkable but finish is rather disappointing. Whisky is still good value in comparison to official bottlings.

A very good sherried Speyside with plenty of flavour and a strong malt core. It lacks some of the balance, refinement and length of Macallan, but it still represents very good value for money.

This is a very unusual Macallan. Without water, it does not have the classic Macallan smoothness, and has some unusual flavor notes not usually found in Macallan. Interestingly it does show that Macallan has a few tricks up its sleeve, and can produce whisky that has a very distinct flavor not limited by the classic Macallan flavor profile. The Old Fashioned is just fine. So, I don’t like this one much when taken neat, but it is fine with some water or in an old fashioned.
