88 | Meaty type of sherry, dark beef broth, salt, medicinal peat smoke, dark BBQ sauce, dark chocolate with chilli and salt flakes |
| Вкус | 86 | Meaty sherry, dryish feeling, tannins, medicinal peat smoke, cold smoked ham, acidic wine note |
| Финиш | 87 | Medium - medicinal peat smoke, chimney sooty smoke, dry, tannic, meaty sherry, beef broth |
Wonderfully complex and a real pleasure on the palate. Smoky, with a distinctive cask influence that makes it especially interesting. There’s still plenty of fruit, alongside chocolate, a hint of hops and a lightly oily texture.
Dark dried fruit, a lovely sweetness, but the finish is far too bitter from the wood. Great for those who like that, but it was definitely too much for me.
Another great Kilchoman, and wow, what a caramel note on the nose and finish, incredible! The caramel flavor is more intense than any other whisky I've tasted in a long time. The finish then brings caramel, peanut with a light dark chocolate coating, tobacco and oriental spices, paired with the typical Kilchoman smoke. An unusual Kilchoman, but the Kilchoman character with its typical smokiness and orange notes is still recognizable. Definitely a very welcome change from the standard range; hopefully, it will be available again once the limited edition bottles are sold out. It's also nice to have a wine that isn't overly sherry-matured for once; wine maturation with smoke is totally underrated anyway. For me, it even surpasses the recently introduced Ballinaby. EDIT: Now that the bottle has been open for a while, the wine aromas are much more pronounced, including dark red berry notes and dried fruit. The strong caramel notes have receded somewhat, and the peanut in the finish is now very subtle, but still present. The dark chocolate flavor and finish, combined with cocoa, remain unchanged. Another great bottling, I'll probably buy it again when the bottle is empty.
Slightly cloudy, orange-rusty color. Only a slight oiliness.

verry good dram.
The Wikipedia article on Maury wine states that it is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) for fortified vin doux naturel wines produced in the Roussillon wine region of France. Almost all of these wines are red. Although the grapes used are different, the wines are produced and marketed very much like port. Maury is a 'vin doux naturel' style, created by adding fortifying spirits, such as brandy, to the wine during fermentation. I did expect more sweetness and a stronger grape flavour. But it was far from it; it was just sharp and bitter — a totally failed experiment. And I, the idiot, bought two bottles...

I know why I call Kilchoman my favorite distillery on Islay. With this Maury cask whisky, they've really outdone themselves again. A dram that will be divisive. Absolutely fantastic!

| Нос | 91 | Childhood memories! A butcher shop with countless smoky aromas and spices. Amazing! Meat and herbs. Where's the grill? Then come the wine notes with red berries (cranberry/blueberry). Simply fantastic! |
| Вкус | 89 | The 50% alcohol is well integrated. The dram remains stable. A slight nuttiness reminiscent of peanut. This is followed by herbs, spices, and red fruits. Along with the typical Islay smoke. The price-performance ratio is very good and beyond reproach. |
| Финиш | 88 | Long and stable again. Hardly anything changes. Perhaps the weakest part at a high level. |

| Нос | 88 | The nose is very interesting. Red fruit combined with plums, strawberries, orange, and dried fruits such as dates and figs, finished with a subtle hint of mint and chocolate. Furthermore, candy and honey-glazed BBQ meat. With a little imagination, you can discover quite a bit more in the olfactory profile. |
| Вкус | 86 | Sweetness and smoke dance hand in hand. The 50% alcohol is well integrated. Tasty flavor profile with apricots, strawberries, and a variety of honey-glazed BBQ meats. I even detect chicken stock and roasted bell peppers, or could that be my imagination? A touch of ash, chocolate flakes, and some leather lead into the finish. |
| Финиш | 86 | The sweet peat profile combined with the sweet wine profile creates a medium-long finish with a hint of ash to coordinate the whole. |
I'm getting italian sausage and cinnamon. As in real cinnamon. Not a spicy note. I like the palate more than the nose and this is all based on a neck pour. The depth is good. It has some oloroso-ness to it. Nothing offensive AT ALL. But I think I was hoping for a bit more sweet peat and more complexity than I got. I'm still happy with buying this but I'm not rushing out to buy another one until I have a chance to drop the neck down and give it a chance to oxidize a bit.

Maury cask 4y11mos 50% 86/87 Nose: sweet paprika and Fox's glacier fruits, Walker's Max paprika crisps, dried peaches, red vines and tahini, stuffed vine leaves and pork knuckle, golden beetroot and yellow watermelon Palate: jamon serrano and balsamic strawberries Finish: dark chocolate dipped strawberries, bergamot and beetroot smoked salmon With water Nose: pork fat and maraschino cherries, red mullet and twizzlers Palate: plum crumble Finish: cherry peppers Tasted as part of a Kilchoman masterclass at Melody Whisky Bar with Brand Ambassador Emma McHarrie
Aroma: smoke from the dying embers, a little bit of smoke, sea mineral notes, red currants, raspberries, blackberries, sea salt, peanuts, dried berries, raisins. If you let it breathe, the aroma gains full notes of strong sweet red wine, strawberry jam, berry jam, honey, sulfur. The aroma changes wonderfully, plays on the nose 88 Taste: alcohol is perfectly covered, the taste is salty, mineral, a lot of smoke, peat, unexpectedly not as sweet as I expected, fortified red wine, strawberries, buckwheat honey, dark chocolate, dates 88 Finish: soft, towards long, smoke, ash, red berries, tobacco, cocoa 87.5
Quite unique. However, the sweetness from the barrel and the peat clash rather than harmonize. I don't need to have that again. 61-70 – Okay, but not more than 1 dram

Matured entirely in Maury casks, this whisky offers a fascinating blend of Islay’s smoky, maritime character and lush fruit sweetness. Notes of dates, raisins and honey blend harmoniously with Kilchoman’s signature citrus freshness and gentle peat smoke. The result is a complex yet elegant single malt with exceptional depth. Aroma Ripe figs, raisins and dates open the bouquet, accompanied by salted caramel, candied orange peel and gentle peat smoke. Taste Mellow pipe tobacco smoke meets dark chocolate. Beneath this, layers of molasses, dried fruit and warming spices unfold. Finish Long-lasting with dried fruit, cocoa and earthy peat smoke. A subtle, dry spiciness ensures an elegant finish.
A distinctive, dense, heavy whisky. Dark chocolate, student seal, overripe grapes, tobacco, sweet spices. That's "Kilchoman MRC" - pure Andrejovica.

I actually really like Kilchoman, but this one is quite unique. For his age, it's rather complex and multifaceted, so it doesn't quite grab me. An interesting experience, but not a candidate for a whole bottle.

| Нос | 83 | Unusual nose. After a strong rush of wood smoke, first strong notes of bell pepper, sweet ground paprika, then machine oil, old workshop, a touch of cowshed, also some overripe plums, but also alcoholic notes. Interesting and difficult at the same time |
| Вкус | 81 | Again, bell peppers, plus plenty of chili heat and smoke, and a few sweet notes. |
| Финиш | 84 | Smoke, hot spices, a little cough drop, and sweet licorice. Quite long |

Full review at https://northseawhisky.com/2026/06/07/reviews-no-11-14-kilchoman-limited-releases-2026/ Simple, sweet, fruity, biscuity. Too sweet for me, and I wouldn’t go back to it night after night, but this is a successful experiment by Kilchoman. One of the rare instances where a bit of sulphur blends into the flavour profile quite well.

| Нос | 87 | I don’t know much about Maury fortified wine, but it’s evidently sweet. Definitely doesn’t taste just under 5 years old, I suspect the sweetness might help there. It noses round and soft for the age and abv, with the peat showing as sharp black pepper throughout. A bit of sulphur, lots of orange jelly and walnuts. There isn’t a ton of Kilchoman left here, except for a tinge of fresh fruitiness and a subtle floral side to the peat. However, it is brilliantly well integrated for the age. Dilution shows more of the grain with a nice oatcake note. |
| Вкус | 85 | A youthful kick on the palate. Fairly weighty, but in a syrupy way. An initial sweet and fruity burst of orange gummies turns into peppery peat in the mid-palate. |
| Финиш | 84 | Finishes with orange and pepper, combined in a simple but balanced way. |

When Islay peat meets Maury wine. A smoky-sweet whisky that offers a great start, but is ultimately somewhat lacking in complexity and has a rather short finish. Nose A blend of sherry and a touch of peat smoke, sweet figs and raisins, cocoa powder and light maritime notes. button On the palate, a pleasantly powerful opening with intense nougat chocolate followed by almost extreme sweetness, which is then balanced by a light smoky aroma in the finish. Fruit notes are only very faintly discernible. finish The finish is predominantly smoky. The spicy-sweet aromas dissipate quickly, but the smoke lingers on the palate for significantly longer.

A fortified wine from Fruity, juicy plums, sweet berries, candied fruit, nutty, the wine influences appear giving deep rich nutty flavours. A lovely dark earthy colour. A tasty dram.
I have no idea what specifically drew me to this bottling, but somehow I had a strong suspicion that the Kilchoman Maury Cask would definitely be something for me, even though the distillery is not exactly one of my favorite Islay distilleries and the Sanaig Cask Strength, unlike many others, rather disappointed me. As soon as I opened it, I realized that I had indeed made a subjective stroke of luck: This is everything I love in one bottle, amazing!!! The color appears to me to be mahogany with a hint of very dark, dark antique rose; the distillate is slightly cloudy.
Wenn Islay-Torf auf Maury-Wein trifft… Eine klare Empfehlung für Liebhaber rauchig-süßer Whiskys.

| Нос |
Well this is fucking good whisky
A truly interesting Kilchoman bottling. It's distinctly different and has its own unique character. The full maturation in Maury sweet wine casks, combined with the Islay smoke, makes it truly special. Smoky, sweet, and meaty and savory. This single malt is like liquid, honey-glazed BBQ spare ribs in a glass. That's precisely why it's sure to polarize opinions. Some won't be able to make heads or tails of it, while others will love it. I think it's fantastic. An ideal companion for a summer barbecue. Meat on the plate, the Maury Cask in the glass.

| Нос | 88 | Heavy, sweet smoke on the nose. Smoked ham with honey. Fruity and sweet, apricot, plums, dates, grilled pineapple. BBQ sauce with plenty of cola. Very interesting. Very savory and fruity. |
| Вкус | 87 | A powerful start, the 50% ABV makes its presence felt. Fruity sweetness of plums, dates, and grilled peaches. Very savory. Smoked BBQ ribs with honey. Grilled bell peppers. Slight bitter notes of tobacco and dark chocolate. A hint of pepper. Salted caramel, roasted peanuts, and a distinct cola note. Wonderfully savory-sweet. |
| Финиш | 87 | The finish is long. It begins with a light, youthful alcohol note. Then the sweetness and smoke come to the fore beautifully. The sweetness and the savory smoke linger until the very end. A good splash of cola rounds it all off. |

Of course, with modern whisky, the type of cask used for maturation and finishing is crucial. Sometimes the cask is the defining characteristic, the one that truly matters. And while bourbon or sherry were once the primary influences, various red and sweet wines now also play a role. Kilchoman has now bottled a Maury Cask Matured Whisky. This sounds intriguing, as I, for one, have never encountered this cask type before. Further research reveals that Maury is a French sweet wine from the Roussillon region in southern France. It's often compared to Port in Portugal – but naturally, there are differences. What they have in common is that they are generally red wines whose fermentation is halted by the addition of brandy, leaving sufficient sugar to mature into a strong, sweet wine in the cask. And in this Kilchoman, the red wine influence is evident in the whisky's distinct reddish-orange hue. The drawback: Kilchoman's website states that it is fully mature – but I cannot find any information about its age. glen-efze.de

This whisky hasn't even been aged for 5 years! Can you really call that maturation for Scotch whisky? This is a vatting from 19 casks from 2021, and approximately 15,000 bottles were filled, as can be read on kilchomania.com. Although Kilchoman is one of my favorite distilleries, I find the prices being asked for this bottling to be quite excessive.
A very pleasant malt; the combination of fruit, sweetness, smoke, and a certain spiciness makes it dangerously drinkable. I like it very much.

| Нос | 87 | Initially, smoke, peat smoke, and a touch of cold ash. These mingle with apricots, oranges, mangoes, and bacon-wrapped dates. It has a hint of a sweet, smoky BBQ sauce. Subtle notes of caramel, marzipan, and salted peanuts complete the picture. Wonderfully smooth with smoky-sweet aromas. |
| Вкус | 88 | The initial taste on the palate is also rather soft, almost velvety smooth. Alcohol is neither noticeable nor intrusive, merely conveying a slightly spicy note. A touch of wood, fruit, and sweetness mingle here as well with a subtly dominant peat smoke. The combination is harmonious and delicious. There are also hints of tobacco, dark dried fruit, and chocolate. In the background, salted caramel, nuts, and beet syrup. |
| Финиш | 86 | Medium-long finish, slightly bitter coffee, very subtle oak spice, naturally still smoke and tobacco. |
A very wide range of sensory perceptions by tasters on this one. I rather disliked the combination of cold ashy smoke and extreme non integrated Maury sweetness, as if the cask had been really wet, which dominated the palate and climaxed in an obnoxious aspartame finish. Absolutely not my cup of tea.
Gaat een geweldige winteravond worden!
