| Нос | 86 | The main peat character is medicinal, like iodine, with ash as a secondary note. Despite being peated, the nose feels fresh and calm. The fruity body is quite nice, with lots of pear and a floral sweetness similar to lavender. 86 |
| Вкус | 84 | Peat is stronger than on the nose. Lemon zest and citrus notes stand out, with a mineral touch, some mustiness and damp cellar notes. The palate feels slightly diluted. 84 |
| Финиш | 86 | Smoky lavender, smoky meat, clear oak charcoal, a bit of salt, earthy notes, and grilled vegetables (grilled cauliflower and eggplant). Medium to long finish. 86 |

Part of Kilchoman 2024 European Tour tasting. Good entry to the Kilchoman lineup. Good balance with peat and cask sweetness. Actually I enjoyed it way more than their other more limited expressions.

| Нос | 83 | Smoked peat fresh fruit |
| Вкус | 83 | The overall oiliness is moderate, and the taste is standard Islay peat smoke. The flavor is very standard, but lacks a prominent personality. The middle note is the sweetness of some fresh fruits, but it is relatively short-lived and fleeting. |
| Финиш | 82 | The finish is some vanilla freshness mixed with the returning peat flavor. |

Slightly softer than some Islay whiskies, but tasty nonetheless. A good session dram.

| Финиш | 81 | A bit warm at first. Lots of spice. Ginger and pepper. Lots of salt. Peat, rather sweet. Sea-like. Lots of spice, still noticeable after a while. Medium-long finish. More sweetness and caramel the second time around. Still quite a lot of spice. |

A promising start: very smoky, lightly fruity, with a touch of medicinal character. But at its standard bottling strength, the palate feels a little thin. It lacks the depth and flavour intensity I’m looking for, and the finish is too short. Much better at cask strength.

Smoke, peat, maritime, mineral, red berries, spicy, citric, some wood. Well balanced, medium body, creamy, salty. Overall intensity between medium to pronounced. Inexpensive.
The aroma is simple, fresh, marine, distant peat, lime, honey, metallic notes. Young and light. Taste – dense, a lot of peat, oiliness, salty tones, brine, peanuts. Disappearing, notes of ham and slight bitterness appear. The aftertaste is average – salty-citrus, slightly bitter.
Light golden color. Oily structure.

New to Scotch whisky. Great taste, some smoke, good on a cold day. Actually tried at a tasting in Scotland with cheese pairing. enjoy with friends.

Slight sweetness in the smoke.

| Нос | 83 | Sweet fresh smoke with still slightly burning pieces of wood Light fruits apricot/peach/lemon A little vanilla |
| Вкус | 83 | Smoke and sweetness directly in the mouth Smoke but more noticeable at the beginning then some light fruit comes through Charred Vanilla Charred grain |
| Финиш | 82 | Grain A little spice Light fruit And lots of smoke |
Good, more peaty in the nose than in the mouth, very good balance.
The spiciness still stands out quite a bit; it feels like it was watered down to tone it down.

Nice, I would say my best Machir Bay so far, totally tasty, smooth, great entry into the world of Kilchoman
Nose: Sweet, vanilla, butter biscuits, smoke, mineral, malt, some lemon, oak ••• Taste: Sweet, spicy oak, smoke, mineral, vanilla, light spices, malt ••• Finish: medium-long, sweet and slightly spicy notes with smoke and malt ••• Conclusion: A pleasant nose with sweet vanilla and butter biscuits in the foreground. There are also mineral notes and smoke. There is also a bit of lemon, malt and oak. The taste has a sweet, spicy start with oak. Then smoke and mineral notes come in. Vanilla, light spices and malt follow. I can taste a bit of liquorice every now and then. A nice smoky standard from Kilchoman. Very drinkable and not overwhelming. I can't find any off notes. The alcohol is well chosen.
A standard from Kilchoman and a very good one. Great smoky whisky that has a very fresh note thanks to the lemon. Lemon and vanilla dominate the nose. The 46% ABV is well integrated and not noticeable. You don't even notice the young age. A very relaxed smoky whisky that is easy to drink in the summer months. Simply delicious.
Machir Bay is a whisky that always leaves me with mixed feelings. Sometimes it leaves me almost cold, other times I find it surprisingly enjoyable. It comes across as an Islay whisky with a deliberately approachable profile – less uncompromising, more focused on balance and drinkability.

| Нос | 85 | The nose reveals a pleasant blend of maritime smoke, vanilla, and citrus. The peat smoke is clearly present but not overpowering. Underlying this are sweet notes of caramel and light fruit, a touch of apple, perhaps pear. Overall, the aromas are youthful, vibrant, and relatively direct. |
| Вкус | 86 | On the palate, the sweetness is particularly noticeable. Alongside the smoke, there are notes of vanilla, malt sugar, and an almost candy-like fruitiness. This sweetness stands out especially when I drink it in direct comparison with more robust, drier Islay whiskies. It makes it more approachable, almost charming – but at the same time, it takes away some of the raw, edgy depth that I appreciate in other Islay whiskies. The texture is solid, the alcohol well-integrated, but not spectacular. |
| Финиш | 85 | The aftertaste is medium-long, smoky-sweet with a slightly dry, ashy note. It fades out cleanly, without any major twists and turns. Conclusion: Machir Bay is a mixed bag for me. It has a distinctive, sweet and smoky character that makes it recognizable and quite enjoyable at the right moment. At the same time, it lacks that special "wow" factor that makes me consciously reach for the bottle. It's well-made, pleasantly drinkable, and usually fairly priced – but for me, it's more of a solid, mid-range Islay than a standout. |

So far I liked the Kilchomans I had, but none really blew me away. Same with this one. It’s enjoyable, but pretty simple and (slightly noticeably) young. I’l gladly have another dram, but I probably won’t buy a bottle. If I were to get a bottle of Kilchoman, The 100% Islay 8YO is the best contender so far.
Tried it on November 25th at Volkshaus in Zurich. I'm sure I've had Machir Bay before, but I don't remember anything specific. Bottle 09/26 opened, first dram here.
Machir Bay is dominated by fresh citrus notes and a pleasant sweetness. The bourbon influence brings plenty of citrus, vanilla, and honey. The sherry influence adds fruity notes. Everything here is very harmonious and well-balanced. The smoke serves only as a support and is well integrated. It doesn't taste young at all. It's a fresh, well-composed Islay malt with gentle smoky notes. The price-performance ratio is excellent, making Machir Bay a standard that should be in every whisky collection.

| Нос | 84 | Fine, gentle smoke. Vanilla, caramel, honey. Distinct citrus notes: lime, orange. Fruity, with pear and apricot. The light campfire smoke blends beautifully with the sweet fruits and citrus notes. A gentle sea breeze. Everything is beautifully interwoven and blends seamlessly into one another. |
| Вкус | 85 | It opens with distinct citrus notes of lime. Orange and pineapple on the fruity side. Vanilla and honey round out the sweetness. Biscuit dough and a fresh ginger spice. Light wood tones. A hint of sea salt. The sherry influence is very subtle and adds a touch of fruitiness. Mineral notes are present. The smoke is rather restrained and complements the other aromas, such as citrus and fruit. The mouthfeel is quite oily. All the aromas blend together beautifully. |
| Финиш | 84 | The finish is medium-long and dominated by citrus notes and sweetness. Maritime notes become more pronounced and are accompanied by a gentle smokiness until the end. |

De whisky op 11 dec 2024 in mijn adventkalender. Kilchoman is altijd een favoriet. De geur is 100% asbak. De smaak is heerlijk zacht. Rokerig met een sherry zoetje. Perfecte balans voor mijn smaak.

A very modern and precise Islay malt. Peatsmoke, lime fruityness and wood influence are perfectly balanced. As others have said, a good entry into the Kilchoman bottlings.

Bottled no MBA 20/06/23 23/70 Overall, It feels like drinking a smoky sea and earth water. It's a whisky I really liked; there's sweetness, but it's not overly noticeable, it's quite subdued, yet it still makes its presence felt. It has a unique character, a very full-bodied, creamy texture, very clean, I didn't feel any unpleasant aspects. It's a whisky made in a perfect triangle of coast, sea, and smoke, and it's very well made. Especially on the palate, it has an amazing cleanliness and fullness; it can be enjoyed every day.

| Нос | 86 | Upon opening the bottle, a pleasant peat aroma greeted me. Like the smoke of burning wood, followed by intense salty seawater, seaweed, iodine, minerals, a hint of storage, cellar, dampness, and a refreshing lemon scent. Turning the glass over revealed a hint of oak spice, menthol, and salty seawater. A slightly dusty beach scent, faint hints of damp cloth, wet stones, and sand, with a faint hint of malt and vanilla lurking in the background, though not quite reaching the surface. The sea and coastal character is very dominant. |
| Вкус | 86 | On the palate, it's very clean, smooth, quite oily, high in viscosity, creamy, chewy, and quite full-bodied. There's a smoke-like smoky atmosphere that fills the mouth, followed by notes of salty seawater, iodine, minerals, earth, mud, green leafy plant roots (like chard, lettuce, cabbage), fresh ginger, a hint of white pepper, a hint of oak, and a smoky malt with a subtle sweetness reminiscent of biscuit, cookie, honey, and orange marmalade, but very subdued. |
| Финиш | 84 | The finish leaves a hint of smoky orange marmalade, the smoke of burnt and charred wood, a slight warmth of white pepper, plenty of plant roots (like cabbage and lettuce), earth, mud, a parched oak sensation, and on the palate, salty seawater, iodine, minerals, and burnt wood. I think it has a medium-to-long finish. |
It's good! Not as good as the Sanaig or the Maury cask offerings from Kilchoman. Probably not worth ARP but if it was on sale I'd grab a bottle.
