It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is of high intensity. I have aromas of intense maritime peat smoke, vanilla, creme brulee, apples, shortbread, pipe tobacco, bacon and ash. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is fairly well integrated and has a heavy body.
Iron and bitter taste have a very long palate and finish, and this part is quite annoying. There's a lot of sweet taste of baked fruits and roasted vegetables. There's also a little citrus.

A dram at Whiskyherbst in Berlin. With an amazing selection of things to try at a whisky show I'm always a bit cautious to pick a peat monster, but I could not leave without a Laffy in the belly... so this was a late Saturday dram.

| Нос | 87 | I'm not sure if it is the strength of it, because the high ABV is not that noticeable on the nose, but this is reminiscent of days of old Laphroaig. All you expect is here in abundance, maybe more yellow fruit than I expected. |
| Вкус | 89 | Neat it is a powerhouse of a peat monster. Water it down a little and sweet fruit start bobbing in the briny tar. On the second sip of a dram like this I always seem to ask myself "why am I doing this to myself?", which make it all the more strange to say I love it. |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium + length. Solid amount of peat, but it's not "sticky", meaning it washes out easily and doesn't ruin the evening for something lighter later on. |

Laphroaig Elements L 2.0 at cask strength and with a fermentation time almost doubled, which is immediately noticeable in the palette of aromas. You can hear mash notes and tones of bread. The release is fruity: there are sour apples, pears and duchesse motifs. Over time, the aroma transforms, notes of pastries, marzipan, charlotte, milk chocolate and baked vegetables appear. Minerals and tart herbs are present, but in the background. The smoke is quite light and not noticeable. The taste continues the beer-bread theme, however, there is noticeably more smoke and burnt rubber appears. You can also smell peppers, sour fruits, burnt caramel with a small splash of dark chocolate. As an experiment, the sample is of interest, however, you are unlikely to find the character of a plant in it.

Laphroaig Elements of Islay L 2.0, 59.6% alc. Expansion: Bourbon barrels Nose: Maritime peat smoke, slightly salty with bandage iodine and seaweed. Behind that comes apple pie, kiwi and grapefruit, sourdough and a delicate vanilla note. In between the smoke becomes a little more artificial, I have to think of bitumen glue, at the same time a floral aroma emerges. Palate: Drier, smokier and spicier than the nose would suggest. Ash, roasted aromas, burnt pizza dough. Sea salt, pepper, oats and malt, vanilla. Fruity aromas of mirabelle plums and dried apples are mixed in. Finish: Medium to long, here too the ash becomes stronger. There is also a hint of spice, the slight spiciness of which is tempered by beeswax. Conclusion: The alcohol is almost perfectly integrated and the taste is also really nice Laphroaig. 88/100 points (2024)

Unusual sweet/candy-like for a Laphroaig I personally seem to enjoy this experiment. I did not get any peat smoke when tasting this, maybe it is due to me having the 10yo Cask Strength shortly before trying this one. Nose: Caramel, honey, apple crumble, vanilla. 88p Mouth: Icing sugar, apple strudel, vanilla ice cream, fudge. 90p Finish: Sweet, pleasant, relatively short. 88p
Official notes via www.laphroaig.com NOSE: Fruity and subtly coastal. Stewed apples, vanilla custard and zesty orange peel with subtle peaty notes. PALATE: Fruity, sweet and salty. Green apples and runny honey with cream soda and soft peatiness of a smouldering bonfire and smoked seafood. FINISH: Sweet with an increasingly warming smokiness to finish.
A fermentation time of 115 hours instead of the usual 55 hours has a significant effect on the Laphroaig character. As Laphroaig itself writes: the significantly longer fermentation time accentuates and highlights the fruit notes. Even if the peat smoke note in the nose "suffers" a little as a result, this really suits a Laphroaig quite well. The second album is the hardest - the way the Elements L2.0 masters this hurdle with such ease, you can only look forward to the hopefully upcoming Elements releases.

| Нос | 89 | For a Laphroaig, this is an extremely fresh nose. Maritime accents, but most of this freshness comes from fresh fruit and wildflower aromas. Freshly sliced red apple, mirabelle plums, a splash of lime juice, plus a light yeast dough aroma, vanilla and honey. The color and the smell suggest ex-bourbon barrels (no official information on the type of barrel used can be found - correction: it says on the packaging: 100% first-fill bourbon). Oh yes, there is peat smoke too. It doesn't come with a sledgehammer here, but is subtle and understated. But it goes well with the otherwise very fruity appearance. |
| Вкус | 90 | Mmm, delicious. Initially a creamy, warm wave on the tongue with vanilla, mirabelle plums, peach jam, then it quickly becomes drier, the fruit fades into the background a little and gives the peat smoke and salt room to develop. Grapefruit, lime juice, kiwi, dried herbs in a slightly bitter version, dried seaweed. My nose often changes a little after the first sip, here it stays as it is, the peat smoke aroma does not attract the nose, but on the tongue the well-known and beloved Laphroaig peat smoke punch goes down well. Fresh yeast dough, bitter dark honey. |
| Финиш | 90 | The longer it stays on the tongue (and that's a long time), the drier and smokier it becomes. The fruit aromas fade into the background, but without completely disappearing from the stage. At the end, a delicious vanilla-honey mixture, garnished with dried herbs and clouded with the finest Islay smoke. |

| Нос | 90 | Sweet, citrus, pomelo, lime, green apple, very delicate smoke, barely noticeable, almond, coconut flakes, butter, herbal ointments - Vicks, Amol, salted peanuts, aroma still light, delicate, mint cough syrup, chamomile tea , vanilla, a bit of floral character. |
| Вкус | 91 | Again, delicacy, sweetness, vanilla, cream cream, smoke present, dry, digestible, but it is a background for the rest, post-ice cream, coffee cream, fresh mint leaves, lemongrass, Ice cigarettes, menthol, lime peel, lovage, light sauce soy, apple cider vinegar, Septolete lozenges, eucalyptus - you can feel it especially when "swallowing" air, anise candies, banana gum, albedo. Great complexity in flavor! |
| Финиш | 89 | Medium long, again pharmacy herbal, mint, anise, fennel, eucalyptus, herbal decoction, Żubrówka, lemon or lime peel, citric acid, cigarette smoke - barely noticeable. The finish is very intense, but it lasts a bit too short... |
Nose: Surprisingly fresh for a Laphroaig. A clear citrus note, with apple, mirabelle plum, pear and peach. Very strong fruit notes. The smoke is then rather heavy, with bitumen notes. Everything is dusted with vanilla and powdered sugar. Sometimes I have to check to see if there isn't an unusually heavy Caol Ila in the glass. With a little water, mint is added and an almost floral touch. The fruit notes remain intense and the whisky becomes almost a little fresher. Mouth: A rather mild start for almost 60%. Fruit dominates in the mouth too, accompanied by croissants, vanilla croissants and dry smoke. With water, a real fruit basket full of apples, pears, yellow-fleshed fruits, with a touch of pineapple, lychee and subtle mango. In the background, slightly salty, maritime algae. Finish: Medium length, vanilla, toffee, some fruit and then becoming drier, finishing slightly bitter. 90/100 Conclusion: For me it is on the same high level as L1.0. But very different in character. L1.0 is strong and has subtle fruit, while L2.0 is more delicate in comparison, with clear fruit notes and fresher. It can continue like this with the elements!

It's very fruity from the start for a Laphroaig, with cooked apples, pomegranate, red berries, braised vanilla, plums of all kinds. All coated in a lovely iodized freshness, sea spray, foam, and a captivating smoke that lets the fruit shine through, and sweet floral notes. On the palate, crème brûlée, brioche, candied ginger, pineapple and grapefruit, virulent spices, a good layer of herbaceous peat. Quite a long finish, where caramel and coffee mingle with orange marmalade, honeyed walnuts, and again discreet coastal flavors, kelp, a pinch of salt. It's very interesting, there's a lot of fruit, and it doesn't in any way hinder the distillery's atypical profile, except perhaps the medicinal touch. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2025/10/laphroaig-elements-l-20.html

| Нос | 88 | Was expecting something like the L1.0. This one is much more reserved. It's all there, but somehow far away. Notes of freshly packed plaster, yellow preserved fruit and then a herbal spiciness that I can't identify. |
| Вкус | 89 | Here we have it: The Laphroaig that I "missed" in the nose. First come the yellow fruits (Mirabelle plum), then it picks up the pace. The alcohol comes into its own here and pushes the herbs into the nose. Pepper, yeast dough and a day at the sea come to mind. |
| Финиш | 87 | Very long. Smoke and sweetness. |
Head to head with the Elements 1.0, this shows a much less assertive nose, and the nose is rather floral. Palate is more delicate as well, if you can describe a Laphroaig as delicate. I prefer the brashness of the Elements 1.0.

Due to the whisky's unique long fermentation process, I would have expected significantly more pronounced fruit aromas. Definitely not worth the asking price; you can get comparable quality from Laphroaig for less money.

| Нос | 87 | The classic Laphroaig smoke is complemented by lovely lemon notes. Otherwise, there's relatively little, and therefore, given my expectations, it's almost a bit disappointing. With water, it has a flavor reminiscent of artificial fruit aromas, though I can't clearly identify them. |
| Вкус | 85 | The smoke is, unsurprisingly, dominant, but unfortunately, I searched almost in vain for the hoped-for fruit aromas. The slightly artificial fruit flavors are also somewhat perceptible here, which, with a bit of imagination, are reminiscent of pears. |
| Финиш | 84 | Simply short and with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Otherwise, I find the finish rather boring, and it doesn't need to hide behind the Laphroaig 12 as a competitor, for example. |

A Laphroaig that is a little shy at first, but develops a very fresh, inviting nose with vanilla and citrus fruits. I gave it plenty of time to nosing and every now and then I could find a hint of tropical fruits. However, these do not form the basic character. In the mouth it is oily, creamy and soft with thick vanilla cream and barley sugar. The peat really comes into its own here, as does the lemon peel. The finish is again very fruity, peaty - long and sticky. A really tame Laphroaig with very good barrel management. I like it a lot! Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to invest the money of over 150€ for it.

It’s a pity that on the palate it chooses already known paths compared to a rich, layered and elegant nose that made one expect something else from the dram. It remains pleasant and different from the usual, especially in the core range, but compared to its brother it doesn’t offer that extra sparkle that you might expect.
нос · вкус · финиш
| Нос | 88 | Greatly absent from the nose is alcohol, absolutely not perceived, while intense is the sensation of stewed fruit (apple, pear, apricot, plum), pastry (banana bread, pineapple and kiwi tart) and even yoghurt, combined with a herbaceous strand of hay and seaweed. And this is where the coastal side of Laphroaig comes in, with a handful of bandaid and disinfectant along with smoke in a role of co-star rather than protagonist, an accent flowing over the integrated aromas in elegant harmony. There is a chorus of acacia honey, candied fruit (tropical, including coconut) and even a hint of panettone. |
| Вкус | 84 | On the palate, the considerable alcohol content chooses shyness (but not annihilation), with a handful of spices (nutmeg, black pepper, ginger) on a profile devoted to dryness. Toasted nuts (almonds, walnuts, pine nuts), hay, dried apple and pineapple, stale bread, malt, burnt juniper berries and shrubs along with the ever-present maritime side with seaweed, iodine tincture and salt. It sets on edge a bit on the finish. |
| Финиш | 83 | A finish which is long, very dry and with slight spicy accents on medicinal and toasted tones with nuts, burnt honey, salt. |

Although I've been around for a while, I'm happy to assume that I might simply lack the perspective or the taste to truly appreciate this Laphroaig. But even such an opinion is ultimately just an opinion, which is why I won't keep it to myself: For me, the emperor has no clothes! This Laphroaig never truly opened up to me at any point in the bottle – and I took my time to be absolutely sure – it seems unbalanced, inharmonious, poorly balanced, lacking its core essence: no phenolic smokiness, no rich vanilla with caramel, no engine room or diesel, only the apricot aroma is present here of all the trademarks that define Laphi for me. Instead, it's strangely sweet, not pleasant, rather "squeaky", biting, disturbing, awkward. I even got myself a sample of the bottle and now I dare to say clearly: I just don't like the taste, no matter how hard I try! I hope I'm not offending anyone, but I can hardly understand how it could have gotten into this expensive bottle: an experiment, sure, but not very successful to my senses. I can manage with version 1.0, but I don't consider it a truly great achievement either; I really enjoy version 3.0, although it also caters to a niche market, but that's what series like this are for. Financially speaking, despite the attractive packaging, they are clearly too ambitious for me; for the same money I can get about three cask strength whiskies, which I would always prefer to the 2.0, regardless of the batch number. It's always difficult to admit such things because of the price – especially since it was a gift and I certainly don't want to seem ungrateful – but if the emperor has no clothes, then he has no clothes, that's just how it is! Or, to put it simply: Just not my cup of teaphroaig. ;o)

A great second serve. Completely different to the L1.0, much lighter, more elegant and with fewer sherry notes. It's really great to taste both bottlings side by side. Both are so incredibly different, but absolutely on the same level. Two little masterpieces, despite the lack of an age statement.

| Нос | 88 | A beautiful, maritime-like nose. The smoke is more delicate and lighter than the L1.0, and seems less iodine-rich, although there are still lovely salty notes. The alcohol is also excellently integrated here. Distant seaside campfire, salty breeze, vanilla, citrus notes, honey, baked pineapple, toffee, baked apple, delicate oak. |
| Вкус | 90 | Powerful, sparkling start and very nice, creamy, full body. Elegant and sweet! Lots of vanilla, almost polished smoke without ashy notes, pineapple, salt flowers, Bundt cake, flower dew, cane sugar syrup, oak spice. |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium-long finish. Smoke, vanilla, pineapple, caramel, delicate citrus notes, oak and a subtle hint of iodine. |
Less medicinal and powerfully saline than the L1, but this is replaced with a bit more depth in overall richness. Perhaps a bit more sulphur and sweet, toasted elements that persist through the mid-palate and into the finish. Water improved things slightly. Overall I found the L1 more interesting, despite the heavy-handed salinity, due to the persistent finish and funkier profile.

| Нос | 87 | Sake, light-bleachy peat notes, smoke, seawater, gingersnap cookies. It's a fun nose. The malt is there too. With water, more floral. |
| Вкус | 84 | Initially less hot than the L1, despite the higher ABV. Some moderate sweetness shows first, followed by sweet nuts and spices. The smoke is not as on display as the L1--but shows as a faint contrast in the background as things settle into the finish. In contrast to the nose, the flavor balance is disappointing. I find the salinity to be more in balance than the L1 which was distracting. Harder to distinguish as things seem strangely missing. |

Rich umami flavor, reminds one of the 10 CS but more subtlety and depth.. unmistakably Laphroaig but is gentle on the smoke and peat.
B: 59.6%, nc, ucf, thick. 24 N: first vanilla, tropic fruit, peat, herbal, wood then cinnamon and smoke. 21 P: vanilla, tropic fruit, smoke, wood. Rich and intense. 24 F: vanilla, spice, smoke, tropic fruit. 21 Medium. Good experiment by Laphroaig. Nose and finish a bit disappointing but palate is excellent

Mild, almost apple-fruity and only a little bit like Laphroaig on the finish.

It smells slightly green. It has a full-bodied flavor.

Honestly, I don‘t get the high rating. Yes it is complex, and Archer‘s notes are spot on, but it basically tastes like a young Caol Ila. It is very expensive and misses much of the Laphi character. I am somewhat disappointed.

Sea breeze, sea salt, iodine, industrial and medicinal notes, combined with tones of yellow juicy fruits and the addition of tropical fruits and a burning effect that removes the salt on the finish.
This is a soooooooo good shot for the money. Beautiful, cookie-like smoke

Significantly more approachable than L1. The smoke remains present but is accompanied by fruity notes (citrus, somewhat tropical). Balanced on the palate, slightly creamy, with a good balance between sweetness and peat. Less aggressive, but more complex. Medium-long, pleasant finish. Conclusion: The most "harmonious" of the series – a good entry point into the Elements series.

Too spicy. My tongue is numb.
