Nose: Intense, peaty smoke, with notes of tar, ash and grilled bacon. Marine and saline notes complete the profile, evoking sea air and salty seaweed. Black fruits and citrus fruits bring a touch of sweetness, with notes of prunes, raisins and candied orange. A hint of honey and vanilla brings additional roundness and complexity. Mouth: An explosion of peaty and smoky flavors upon entry into the mouth, with notes of tar, ash and wood smoke. The marine and saline notes persist, reminiscent of salt air and sea spray. Black fruits and citrus develop on the palate, offering notes of prunes, raisins, orange and candied lemon. A touch of honey and vanilla brings a welcome sweetness, balancing the smoky and salty notes. The finish is long and lingering, with smoke that lingers on the tongue and a slight tingling sensation. Spices and anise flavor. In summary: This Ledaig 22 year old is a powerful and complex whisky, which offers an intense and tasty experience. Smoke and peat are in the foreground, but they are well balanced by marine, fruity and sweet notes.

Of the 2001 GM bottlings this one's the most farmy. I really like this stuff and it's great to still have a considerable measure on hand from a bottle share.

| Нос | 91 | Ohw yes, farmy, lactic and cheesy immediately. Not so much directly smoky, but dry and burning grasses are there with an earthy kind of peat, Old Amsterdam cheese, slight notes of tar. Then sweetness from the sherry cask kicks in with sultana raisins, plum, figs and blackberry, even some sour citrus. Also toffee, chocolate, roasted nuts, sweet tobacco and salted black liquorice. Clove and a milder style of (fried) chili peppers appear in the background. |
| Вкус | 90 | Creamy (almost buttery or greasy) in the mouth with initially lots of drying wood smoke and chili pepper notes up front. Gotta tame this baby carefully with a little water and some time, bringing out more of the sweet fruitiness. Sultana's, sweet berries, dried fig, plum and lemon zest. The salted liquorice shifts to the front when keeping this in the mouth longer with the cheey farmy notes, dry tobacco, cocoa butter and roasted nuttiness following suit. The final development gives clove, chili's and some bitter charcoal and ashiness. |
| Финиш | 90 | Very long with a nice complexity: a bit sour (citrussy) with dark berries and sweet dried fruits, lots of black liquorice, tobacco, dark chocolate, some espresso and charred wood. In the end it's very much warming on fried peppers with some bitter ashiness lingering on the tongue. |
Big Ledaig fan. But after opening the bottle I didn't find much of Ledaig character. But now, down to 2/3 of the bottle, Ledaig smoke is more and more pronounced although more on the industrial than barny side. And I like it a lot.

It was worth waiting for the notes, the open bottle is much better after a few months in the air. 100% Ledaig, cowshed and sherry. Delicious! The alcoholic strength is initially too much when undiluted, but after two sips you think "perfect as it is!" Mature and harmonious malt with subtly reduced smoke.

A pleasant, well-balanced smoky-peaty whisky with a strong sherry influence, lots of smoky woody notes, plenty of sweetness, a wide palette of derivatives, excellent drinkability.

Brühler whisky house blind tasting! The winner of the evening, even though it had a few flavors of its own (ahhh a ledaig ...) very good, settled smoker with some fruit! My guess was a 25-year-old bunna - phew, I was way off the mark :)
Starts off quietly on the nose and develops into a strong and tasty dram in the mouth. The finish is on the dry side, which gives the smoke more room. The smoke is somehow reminiscent of Islay due to the iodine note, quite maritime. In two months, when the bottle has opened a bit, I will have to write more detailed notes.
also a "blind" tasting. Here the nose directly invites you to the Isle of Mull. It seemed young, energetic, powerful, peaty and earthy... let it be ledaig (it is). It is amazing that at this age the profile is like that of a young whisky. 23-22.5-22-22.5

A well-balanced whisky, brought together into a single whole, the palette of derivatives is quite wide, although on the whole quite traditional, but everything is very rich, thick and juicy, in large, so to speak, strokes, without wasting time on a subtle play of shades and halftones, and the result is generally pleasing.

On the one hand there are greengages, nectarines and a sweet florality, on the other hand cloves, black cardamom, some mustard and a resinous note can be found. This nose offers a mouthwatering combination of fresh, fruity, dark and dirty! |
| Вкус | 89 | Immediately some rubber, paired with light to medium peat. Juicy oranges and apricots take over, while an increasing salinity unfolds. The sherry also speaks with chocolate, tobacco and liquorice. The only downside is an impression of artifcial sweetener (aspartame) that feels a bit off. |
| Финиш | 89 | Light to medium smoky on the finish. It's pretty salty again, rubbery and farmy, with redcurrants, chocolate and espresso appearing too. The cloves of the nose return, while some tannins linger on the long finish. |
Brutally delicious and strong sherry influence. Oily. Sweet, with a powerful alcohol content. As the alcohol wears off, a cascade of aromas remains: vanilla, light fruits, dark fruits. The alcohol could have been integrated a little more, and the smoke is a bit too subdued for a Ledaig, but that's normal for a 22-year-old.

Very decent in smell, but the taste is too woody for me. The finish is long and pleasant, with tannins dominating here too. In my opinion, adding water changes little to nothing, at most the PLV.
