В большинстве текстов виски описывается как гармоничное сочетание шерри и дыма: упоминаются красные фрукты, лёгкий торфяной дым, сладость и оттенок солёности, а также «полный газ» торфяного дыма Caol Ila. В ароматах и вкусах встречаются карамельный солод, ваниль, вишня в сиропе, изюм, сливы, дым, йодистая солёность, морские ноты, зелёная древесина и уголь; финиш описывается как долгий, согревающий, с сухофруктами, дымом, маслянистостью и корицей, иногда с горьковатым оттенком и кофейной гущей. Отдельно отмечается, что сочетание «Islay Peat and Sherry» — любимое, а сам виски называют «вкусным» и «хорошо сбалансированным».
Вместе с тем есть и критические замечания: шерри-ноты могут казаться немного искусственными, виски называют молодым и простым, с недостатком гармонии в первые 20 минут, но улучшающимся после аэрации; шерри-ароматы описываются как «простые» и не всем подходящие, а вкус — как самая слабая часть при том, что финиш и текстура лучше. After my first review, I now tasted it again in a blind tasting. This is a wonderful wine with a very successful sherry maturation. Everything harmonizes here, red fruits, light peat smoke, sweetness and a hint of saltiness. Really nice. In addition, a more than reasonable price for barrel/batch strength.

Sweet and spicy, full throttle Caol Ila peat smoke. Sherry notes appear a little artificial, but I've never been a huge fan of sherry bombs. Still, this is a good one, when you're in the mood.

That's a board! The surprise of the year so far!
Very smoky, with lots of caramel malt and red fruits. Pleasantly warm finish, warming towards the end. I enjoy every Port of Askaig, and this version is no different.

Sherry Cask Quarter – a bottling with the same name was available specifically for the Dutch retailer Drankdozijn (d12) for Black Friday in 2022. It was a bottling without an age statement, which was also significantly lighter than this bottling for Kirsch Import. The title Sherry Cask Quarter is a bit tricky, you think of sherry, you think of quarter casks, made famous by Laphroaig - in reality it means that a quarter of the bottling matured in a sherry hogshead, plus three ex-bourbon hogsheads. At least this bottling is vintage. It was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2023. The whisky is therefore over 8 years old. The 57.1%vol. are not a cask strength, the bottling for d12 was also set that way. glern-efze.de
It is always a question of taste. This one isn't necessarily my taste, but it improves a lot after 20 minutes. Too much young sherry, too simple overall, little harmony (in the first 20 minutes). I prefer an older whisky at drinking strength, but that's a matter of taste. For me personally, that would be a waste of money and I would personally rather spend twice as much on a whisky that I can enjoy - but to each his own. The Port Askaig 17 is available for 120 euros (89 points from me), this one for at least 70 euros. A simple whisky between 85 and 86 points.
