With only 296 bottles worldwide, this Benriach is a rare find for connoisseurs of authentic single cask whiskies.

Offering notes we don't usually encounter, it provides a light, elegant, and enjoyable experience. It's not one of the world's deepest whiskies, but (as I've said repeatedly) it's a sessionable whisky. For that reason alone, it's a whisky worth keeping in the bottle to have a bit of room to maneuver. Value for money: Good! Would I buy it again?: Yes.

Нос	86	On the nose: cedrate, vanilla cream, light coconut cream, lime zest. Lychee. Light rose. Dried apricot. Melon, green apple jelly. Cane sugar; the cachaça comparison in the official tasting notes is apt. Tarragon. Yellow plum, green bell pepper. A malty, porridge-like quality in the background. White fruits; white mulberry, white peach. Slightly dry, aged wood. Light clove. Cedar. Over time, a pastry-like, marshmallow-like meringue side. A pleasant, sessionable nose, not something you'll encounter every day.
Вкус	87	A beautiful, slightly below-average body. Light green peppercorns, capers, green apple. Sweet green bell peppers. Malty notes, like marshmallows, vanilla porridge, or oatmeal. Again, dried apricots. A hint of honey. Bay leaf. A balancing, delightful bitterness. Superb balance. Honey and lemon pastilles. Honeydew melon. Fresh white peaches, ripe nectarines, yellow plums. Poached pears in a spicy (especially clove-flavored) syrup. Perhaps not the most complex palate in the world, but perfectly balanced and sessionable.

Plum pit. Cucumber peel. A balancing bitterness that is never considered a flaw. Green grape. A malty, bread-like background. Finally, retro-nasal white chocolate. Perhaps a hint of cilantro leaf. Not the most impressive finish in the world, but it certainly plays a role in making the whisky sessionable. Good.

Official tasting notes: Nose: Dried apricots, ginger spice, honey, fresh lime, smells like it would make a great margarita. Some funk characteristics, too. Kind of like a baby cachaça. Gummy worms. Palate: Honeyed malt, some stone fruit, green grapes, white pepper and yellow plums. Finish: Salty and funky on the finish.

It drank a bit younger than its 17 years, I think, but still a quality dram and not what I would have expected from my previous experiences of the distillery.
