They loudly said "French Oak", it raised expectations, but... But alas, no... too dry, too much pepper, not deep enough, and still young... Ok, this whisky is quite ok to drink, thank you, but it didn't live up to expectations... previous batches of whisky for friends were better in my opinion... 20 21+ 20+ 21 83

Given the specifications, one could certainly have been skeptical about this Càirdeas. Ultimately, it pleasantly surprised me. Lovely smoke, very maritime notes – it's also sweet and well-balanced. Perhaps the fruit notes could be a touch more pronounced. While this is one of the weaker Càirdeas bottlings, it's still so easy-drinking and enjoyable that I'm already looking forward to finishing the bottle without any fuss.

| Нос | 87 | As expected, the dominant flavor here is clearly the distinctly maritime smoke. The fruit notes, however, are quite subtle. Distant campfire by the sea, ash, iodine, Hansaplast, smoked ham, vanilla, sheet cake, salted almonds, marshmallows, gentle citrus notes, also lemon cake, white pepper, dried apricots, oak spice. |
| Вкус | 88 | It flows into the mouth with a tingling and powerful sensation, where it feels very nice and creamy. Distant campfire, salty sea breeze, iodine, seaweed on damp ship planks, caramel, marshmallows, candied lemons, ash, roast ham, dried pineapple, vanilla custard, a hint of apricot, white chocolate, oak spice. |
| Финиш | 88 | Smoke, vanilla pudding, dried pineapple, sea salt flowers, ash, sheet cake, white chocolate, caramel, oak spice. |

On paper, "French Oak" initially struck me as young and unbalanced – but I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't come across as young, nor is it unbalanced. Instead, it surprises with an exceptionally attractive nose, a full body, and a distinctly medium-long finish. Phenolic to the max, yet with lovely fruit notes. Delicious.

| Нос | 89 | For a Laphroaig, this is a rather subtle nose: comparatively delicate peat smoke, phenolic notes, seaweed on a North Sea beach in the warm June sun, salt, sweet and juicy honeydew melon, mirabelle plum, and marshmallow. The longer I smell it, the more I like it—not despite, but because of its understated nature. You get used to the peat smoke note quite quickly, so it can be faded away relatively fast. After that, there's plenty of room for mineral notes (Campbeltown sends its regards!), for dried and candied apricot and peach pieces, for white chocolate, honey, and vanilla. |
| Вкус | 88 | A very pleasant start, it strikes me as very soft and creamy. It picks up where it left off on the nose, only with a bit more phenolic smoke. Dried seaweed, bacon, now it shifts into high gear and delivers kimchi, chili powder, smoked paprika, black pepper. Fruity aromas in the form of mirabelle plums and dried apricots. Nice. |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium-long finish, salty, phenolic. Dried seaweed, like a plaster. Mineral aromas, black pepper, grated nutmeg. |
Beautiful! A refreshing Laphroaig bottling, it beat the new 15-year-old (Core Range) and the 14-year-old Willem Dafoe in a parallel tasting.

very sweet, smoky, slightly stale, noticeable alcohol, salt, over time bacon, green apple, citrus Mouth: strong, biting sweet pear, sour apple ring, medium smoke, perfume The finish is sharply burning chili, with a bit of smoke; the only thing that remains is chili-sweet smoke. Compared to usual, younger, less smoky, less complex, presumably fewer old barrels - weaker Cairdeas

Tasted from a snifter. Tasted neat, without adding water. This is a rather atypical Laphroaig, in my opinion. I would never have recognized it as a Laphroaig in a blind tasting, but then the familiar notes emerge on the palate. For me, a successful bottling that I will likely enjoy for a long time. I'm curious to see how it develops after being open for a few weeks.

| Нос | 86 | Surprisingly, the nose offers a rather sweet note, something like cotton candy, cherries, dark berries, and mango, with surprisingly little peat or medicinal notes for a Laphroaig. A mineral note also emerges, along with occasional hints of seaweed and a sea breeze. The alcohol is very well integrated. |
| Вкус | 88 | On the palate, it presents itself quite differently; it's very astringent, like burnt coal, layered with dark berries, cherries, and mango. There's also a very nice espresso note, along with leather and tobacco. Here, too, the alcohol is very well integrated. |
| Финиш | 86 | The finish is medium to long. Very astringent again towards the end, with peat and a truly long-lasting espresso note. Very nice. |
It has a relatively high viscosity and a very intense bouquet. I get aromas of pleasant, maritime peat smoke, citrus, orange peel, leather, chocolate, cinnamon, espresso, vanilla, and pipe tobacco. Not particularly complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is well integrated, and it has a heavy body.
An interesting Laphroaig. At 52% and French oak I thought this would offer some nice dried fruity notes. Actually so well integrated it doesn't feel like full bodied but it is. Prune juice, leather , tobacco and mahogany notes. Only criticism is the peat is dialled back. Still a very fun Laphroaig and another feis ile success!
weak nosing but palate is oily and syrupy, kinda like some old laphroaig bottlings but not as fruity no burnt whatsoever, mouth coating n lingering sweetness

I'm not convinced that the French oak adds a great deal to the dram - there is a lovely, salty smoke note, but overall it is let down by being too thin. Worth trying anyway.
нос · вкус · финиш
| Нос | 85 | Quite a delicate peat note on the nose which comes through as a hint of smoke - plenty of saline notes going on too. Some fat, fruit notes sit in the background. |
| Вкус | 84 | The texture in the mouth is a little thin - much more than I was expecting - the peat comes through strongly on the palate as a smokey note, with salty edges - the fruits notes are submerged by the smoky salinity - the alcohol provides a little heat, but it is let down by the lack of body. |
| Финиш | 84 | Medium finish - the smoke note lingers awhile, as does the saline. It would be a much better dram with a bit of body to it. |

| Нос | 89 | Sea, mineral, leather, bonfire on the beach, quite closed - but interesting, there is cotton candy, algae, cigar ash, wood, moss, burnt apple, apricot, plum |
| Вкус | 88 | dense, mainly ash, minerality, iodine, algae, vanilla, butter cookies, honey sweetness, leather, wood, a bit of dark fruit, mainly cherries and blackberries |
| Финиш | 88 | long, ash, sea breeze, eucalyptus, freshly ground pepper, iodine, leather, chocolate, honey, cherries |
Last year I tried the Cairdeas and was not disappointed, so thought about trying again this year and got a bottle, super happy with it. The french oak gave an impressive complexity to the whisky without losing the Laphroaig soul. It's almost 53 ABV but can't feel it on the mouth. Amazing bottle!!

| Вкус | 85 | Very sharp and spicy, cigarette smoke, cigar, tobacco, leather, burnt, unfortunately dominated by sharpness and noticeable alcohol. |

It didn't blow me away, I won't be buying a bottle. Floral, fruity, smoky – simple and drinkable, but nothing special. For me, weaker than the 10-year-old CS batch 12, for example.

I don't think this release is bad, but it doesn't quite measure up to "that Karchis" with its horde of fans. And this release isn't an outright failure. Honestly, I sat with it for 40 minutes, added water, and didn't get any wow factor. The aroma and flavor are modest, I'd say restrained and limited. The alcohol content doesn't bother it at all, but it doesn't really add anything special either. For me, even the "oak select" is tastier, and even the new 10 is more interesting in terms of profile. It's simply a smooth, drinkable, balanced, well-crafted whisky with a honeyed, fruity profile, perfect for distillers.
French Oak? I'm usually out. So I didn't buy a bottle and started with a sample. I should have had more faith in Laphroaig...

| Нос | 87 | The nose starts off rather subdued: the phenolic smoke doesn't release much at first. Over time, hazelnut, brown sugar, caramel, and light marshmallow notes emerge. Fruit is also present: yellow fruits, mirabelle plum, and always sweet. |
| Вкус | 89 | The whisky starts just as the nose promises: brown sugar, caramel, and the yellow fruits add another layer of complexity. Everything is very well-rounded and integrated. |
| Финиш | 90 | Balanced, long, sweet, and never bitter. An outstanding finish. |

It's so delicious that I ordered another bottle today. Were the French barrels—just some, or all—previously used? I haven't found out yet. Some Armagnac or Cognac barrels might have been involved. Fruity aromas could also have come from a few sweet wine barrels or a small proportion of red wine barrels. What really bothers me, though, is the lack of a statement on the bottle and box regarding chill filtration and the addition of coloring. The distillery's website explicitly stated: "- Non-chill filtered & natural color." End quote. That's exactly what it said, in German. I printed it out. I was all the more disappointed when, upon unpacking the bottle, I found no reference to these statements which are important to me (and probably to all true friends of Laphroaig). Am I asking too much if I want this statement to be just as clearly displayed on the bottle label and the box? As it is now, it can only result in significant deductions in the overall impression!

I'm delighted! The Laphroaig website for this bottling explicitly states: - Cask strength at 52.6% - Not cold-filtered & natural color Finally – it works! All that persistent nagging has paid off. And please keep it up, this is the kind of transparency we want! But... even with this bottling, at least one question remains: Are the French oak casks used here virgin oak, meaning new casks without any prior use, or have they already been filled, perhaps with French wine or cognac? Maybe I'll find out.
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2026 offers a side of the distillery I have never experienced before. Rather than delivering an aggressive, smoky punch, it focuses on texture and balance. The mouthfeel is astonishingly creamy—almost dessert-like—and arguably the creamiest Laphroaig I've ever tasted. I sincerely hope Laphroaig continues releasing non chill-filtered whiskies, because the richness and viscosity add an entirely new dimension to the spirit. While I would have welcomed a little more intensity from the French oak, this is an incredibly enjoyable and unique dram that stands out in the Càirdeas series.

| Нос | 88 | Beautiful deep golden copper colour with remarkable viscosity.Fresh citrus leads the way, followed by toasted marshmallows, vanilla fudge, yellow orchard fruits and soft leather. Classic phenolic peat smoke lingers in the background, never dominating but tying everything together beautifully. |
| Вкус | 90 | An exceptional mouthfeel. This is the creamiest Laphroaig I've ever tasted—rich, oily and almost dessert-cream-like. Despite being a NAS whisky, the alcohol is impressively well integrated and never feels youthful.Sweet peat smoke intertwines with grilled marshmallows, sticking plasters, vanilla fudge and a gentle warmth reminiscent of gochugaru chilli flakes. Freshly cracked black pepper, bacon fat, yellow apples, ripe plums and butter-fried apricots create a profile that is both comforting and distinctly Laphroaig. It doesn't aim to overwhelm with power, but instead impresses with elegance, texture and balance. |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium in length, with lingering tobacco, warming spice and phenolic smoke gradually giving way to sweet yellow fruits. A satisfying finish that leaves you reaching for another sip. |

The Cairdeas French Oak is exactly what it claims to be: a very woody, smoky single malt. If you're not a fan of heavy wood, this bottling probably isn't for you. But once you get past the initial dryness, you'll be rewarded with pleasant fruit and beautifully bitter chocolate and coffee notes. The campfire smoke is very well integrated and only really comes through in the finish. The alcohol is well-balanced, providing enough strength and character without being unpleasant. A very nice Laphroaig with a strong oak influence.

| Нос | 89 | Beautiful, robust campfire smoke. Unobtrusive and wonderfully enveloped by sweet fruit notes. Peach, sour cherries, orange marmalade, apricot, mirabelle plums. Milk chocolate, salted caramel. A hint of juniper berry, seaweed, and sea salt. A very lovely fruity, sweet, and smoky nose. |
| Вкус | 88 | Very oaky on the attack. Tannins, fresh wood. Very astringent. The fruit struggles a bit to assert itself. Then peach, cherry, orange marmalade emerge. Ginger and lemon. Tobacco, leather, black pepper, cloves, and juniper berry. Lovely notes of chocolate, cocoa, and espresso. The ashy campfire smoke is rather subtle. Despite the dryness, quite oily on the palate. |
| Финиш | 88 | It begins with a strong woody spice that initially dries the mouth. With the second sip, the fruity notes gradually emerge, creating a pleasantly fruity and spicy character. Spice, chocolate, and coffee notes then take center stage. The finish is medium to long. The campfire smoke only really comes through in the finish, but then lingers until the very end. It concludes with wonderful notes of chocolate and espresso. |

Of the Cairdeas bottlings from 2023 to 2026, this one is my favorite. I don't find the wood influence too dominant, and I think the proportion of virgin oak gives the malt more complexity. [88~91] complex, interesting, fun, I can spend more time with it, "want it" :-D

An interesting malt. On the nose, it tries to somewhat disguise its origin, but then reveals itself on the palate as a typical Laphroaig, with the smoke surprisingly well integrated. Overall, the peat, oak, and intense fruit create a surprisingly balanced blend that, despite some rough edges, somehow harmonizes. The distillery's website describes it as a whisky that "feels familiar yet new." I would say that description is pretty accurate. I would like to thank Laphroaig for the free sample! This will, of course, not influence my rating. https://www.aboutwhisky.de/tastingnotes/laphroaig-cairdeas-2026-french-oak/

Since Cardius was well-received in both 24 and 25, if he performs well this year as well, it would be a great record of hitting long balls for three consecutive years. Even though it has just opened, the alcohol flavor is not very strong. It is truly delightful that the characteristics of alcohol do not manifest in either the aroma or the taste, but rather a variety of aromas appear in multiple layers. Since it's a brand that just came out, there aren't many reviews yet, so I'm curious to see how it will be evaluated in the future, but my feeling right now is that it has hit three consecutive hits quite well.

| Нос | 90 | There is the umami of minerals and seaweed, sweet and sour fruit candy, delicate smoky notes, orange peel, and oh, that musty aroma from the aging cellars of Islay distilleries like Laphroaig—there is also an oak scent. On top of that, a subtle hint of herbs. |
| Вкус | 89 | In terms of flavor, a fruity sweetness reminiscent of tropical fruits or berries appears first, followed by metallic notes like minerals or iron. Umami derived from the sea, such as seaweed. Notes of leather and oak, along with a smokiness that is still not strong. |
