Torabhaig 08-year-old DeDr Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Old Skye

Old Skye 8 Years Old is a small-batch Torabhaig, distilled in 2018 and initially matured in two first-fill bourbon barrels. Around a year before bottling, the barrels were brought together in a third-fill butt, allowing the whisky to marry and continue developing without obscuring its youthful, feisty distillery character. Fresh, crystalline peat and crisp bonfire smoke meet sea air, coastal minerals and a faintly farmyard weight. The palate is thick, briny and energetic, with lemon juice, smoked olive oil, pasta water, tar and hessian leading into a long, ashy finish of seawater and smoked sea salt. Bottled at 52% ABV as part of the Island Hopping series, with an outturn of 200 bottles. Nose: Fresh, crystalline peat, sea air, crisp bonfire smoke, some jangling seashells and coastal minerals. Then a wee fug of more dense, farmyard impressions. Palate: Thick, peaty, briny and full of lemon juice, pasta water, smoked olive oil and ideas of tar and hessian, Finish: Long, lemony, peaty, ashy and bright with seawater and smoked sea salt.
