A gloriously expressive 31 year old Tomatin, distilled in 1994 and matured for its entire life in a humble refill hogshead. Brimming with honeyed richness, powerful fruitiness and an almost syrupy texture, it is the sort of whisky that inspires the residents of Whiskyland to ever more elaborate forms of appreciation. Bottled at natural cask strength after three decades of patient maturation, this is a wonderfully old-fashioned Highland malt and a perfect example of what Whiskyland is all about.

I had high expectations, but the taste didn't quite meet them. However, as it decanted longer, the wine became more complex, the off-flavors faded, and various fruit notes began to emerge. I strongly recommend giving this wine time, at least 30 minutes, to breathe; it might help you understand why the label is drawn the way it is.

Нос	90	Honey/syrup muffins, cream, oak, pepper, apple, cranberry, limestone, with an alcoholic note. After aeration, the alcoholic note diminishes considerably, becoming gentler and more subtle.
Вкус	91	The initial notes are of mung bean paste, pepper, wood, marshmallow, cream, and a touch of orange blossom, but with a slightly unpleasant bitterness. After thawing, the bitterness lessens, and the fruitiness becomes more pronounced and sweeter, with flavors of dried mango, star fruit, and honey emerging, along with hints of unripe, crisp peach, minerality, and perfume.
Финиш	90	Medium-long, slightly bitter, with notes of minerals, honey water, and mixed fruits (a fruity flavor without any particularly specific character). After waking up in the glass, the bitterness lessened, and a hint of ink appeared.

Нос	90	It needs plenty of time in the jar and should remain sealed for a long time. Lychees, raspberries, papaya. Lightly perfumed. With a subtle hint of wood spice.
Вкус	91	Tropical fruits: mango, honeydew melon, and papaya. A touch of "farmy," hay-like notes. As expected for its age, there's also a slight wood influence, but it's within acceptable limits.
Финиш	90	Long and intensely fruity.
