Quick hit review. Isle of Jura certainly does not belong to the top performers in my book, but that is entirely down to the official bottlings. This dram noses more like a tawny port than a whisky - a good port, that is. Strawberry jam, raspberries and floral notes mingle with toffee, tobacco and walnuts. On the palate, stewed fruits, marmalade and prunes are balanced by eucalyptus, baking spices and dry oak. The herbal and mildly bitter aftertaste subsides with red currants, black tea and a touch of amaretto. This Jura is all about the (wet) cask - if that's your thing, go for it. [November 2025] A quick review of a sample which colour is rather dark at russetmuscat. This cask was quite active... ...hence this will be of interest to the modern whisky drinkers, I guess. It offers a lot of easy identifiable and powerful impressions, which are mainly driven by the port cask used. Not that much of Jura-specific flavours in there, but I do not miss them (I am not a big fan of the Jura profile, anyway). Easy and no-regret buy for modern wine-whisky lovers (no off-notes, and not a whiff of sulphur).

Нос	88	Modern port-style nose with cooked fruits (plumbs, green apples, quinces), herbs, mineral-chalky impressions and firm (but not dominating) woods. Not a lot of spirit-driven impressions here.
Вкус	89	Completely dominated by the heavy wine flavours, which are nice and powerful without any off-notes. Great modern maturation, very quaffable for the "sher-sky" connoisseurs. The spirit adds the trademark Jura oiliness and some funky impressions, which are hard to describe (but very enjoyable in such a dram). And yes, there are some impressions of salted dark chocolate (as promised in the provided tasting notes).
Финиш	88	Warming and powerful arrival with minor bitter / drying impressions (which are common to many modern maturations, hence most drinkers are used to these). Turns more mineral-herbal (liquorice) towards the end without loosing the overal sweet-winey profile. No off-notes in any dimension. Water does not change a lot, I like it best a little reduced to 48 per cent abv.

Нос	84	Unfortunately, it starts off somewhat cereal-like, with cherry and red berries.
Вкус	86	It has the same rye note as Cherrywine Stauning, beautiful red fruit, it's very difficult for me to put into words, a little pepper.

Jura is one of those brands that largely meets with disapproval from whisky nerds. The core range is uninteresting, colored whisky that also offers little in the way of flavor. But that's probably precisely Jura's recipe for success. Success? Who drinks the stuff? Internationally, few, certainly not nerds – but in Great Britain, it's the best-selling single malt. True, Jura sells more there than Glenfiddich or Glenlivet, but it's also somewhat cheaper. Of course, you don't achieve that with expressive, complex malts. This bottling comes from The Whisky Agency, an independent bottler from Limburg. It matured in a tawny port cask, which imparted a dark, reddish copper hue, and will be available in early 2026 for just under €135. It's not exactly cheap. glen-efze.de

I got a sample of it because I wanted to try a Jura keyboard again. I've rarely had the opportunity to do so. I completely agree with EmilianAmodeo. Very cereal-like. The whole whisky reminded me more of a German whisky. Some of them tend to have a fruit brandy character. I wouldn't have guessed it was a Scotch whisky in a blind tasting. That doesn't mean it doesn't taste good, though. There's a wine note that's very fruity, and the finish is nice too. But this sample is enough for me.

No detailed notes, quite an interesting fellow. The nose is especially memorable with wild notes as one would expect from a Jura matured in good wine casks (chalk, Pepsi, toasted leaves, warm leather, dirt, cloves, soy + red miso broth, menthol), while the palate is more standard but still pretty unique (greasy, sweet coffee, wood oils). The finish is more standard for a wine matured whisky, a tad too bitter sometimes, still pleasant enough. A good one, definitely a bit pricey, understandable since Tawny is the more expensive of the standard Port wines.
