Нос	91	Rich red wine, old leather, Ron Burgundy! Light smoke over rich jam and cake. Very earthy. I could smell this all day and never drink it, well maybe not.
Вкус	89	A deep river of wine with plums floating. Smoke and earth. Lightly cloying spice (anise). No burn at all here. Fantastic from start to finish.
Финиш	88	Smooth and gentle with some 'sour' hints, but not unpleasant. Raisins dipped in burnt chocolate.

Нос	89	Blackberry and strawberry jam hits it well, subtle smoke, almost imperceptible. Little Ballechin, lots of wine barrels. With a little water, the smoke becomes more prominent, but hugs the fruity notes instead of dominating them.
Вкус	90	Wow! Fruity, berries again and such a great sweetness. But it is quickly replaced by the bitter notes and earthy, dirty smoke typical of Ballechin. A great interplay that continues for a really long time. But smoke is broken down well.
Финиш	90	Eternally long finish of chocolate, again strawberry-blackberry jam and light smoky notes in the background. Very elegant, fascinating.

Cherries in chocolate, a little gum, cold black tea. Everything seems to be well done as in this type of tape, but purely for me there is some vague characteristic here that I don't really like. And this is not the first time with Balekin. There's something sweet and sour about his profile that turns me off. Therefore, my assessment should probably be taken into account as an individual intolerance.

Нос	90	Extremely. You can sit for hours and enjoy the change and development of aromatics. To my surprise, quite a bit of smoke. At least not as much as I expected with 50 ppm. This is pleasing, because the smoke is perfectly integrated and just nicely complements the overall aroma. In the beginning - it's strawberry, cherry, mountain honey with the aroma of herbs, mint, blackberry, lots of milk chocolate, vanilla... lots of meaty bacon aromas.
Вкус	87	Quite sharply. Not that the wax is completely foreign, but the sweetness is not immediately apparent. First pepper and herbs. Alcohol is felt quite strongly and at first one has the impression that the whisky is 10 years old. Next is the development of the taste and here it is already clear that we are dealing with an older age. Lots of chocolate and a little smoke. Blackberry and cherry jam, quality sherry notes, bacon. Minerality and lots of jam. But it is surprising that there is no strong acidity, characteristic of red wine barrels. Everything would be fine, if not for a rather thin alcoholic kick at the beginning. New Year's gingerbread with plum-cherry filling, covered with chocolate. Cloves, cinnamon, coriander.
Финиш	90	Medium-long. Plum and cherry jam with chocolate lingers in the mouth for a long time.

Вкус	89	Alcohol very well integrated. There are healthy amount of tanins, but I loved the ballance, not too much. Mouth watering with Blackberry and vanilla pod.
Финиш	88	Long finish, tanins, wood, grape skins. It's worht to get a bottle.

N: I get strawberry and blackberry jams right off the bat. Then BBQ’d meats, some salinity, black cherries, blueberries, a lot of berries, and very dark chocolate. This is a very wine forward nose and that makes sense given that this whisky was fully aged in Burgundy casks. P: Earthy peat to start then back to berries. Blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, then mixed berry jams, chocolate with sea salt, smoked meats, black cherries, black pepper, and caramel. The mouthfeel is very rich and it has a tannic quality. F: More of the same from the palate with continued berry notes, earthy peat, touches of salt, and more wine tannins. This is everything I want in a wine cask matured whisky. I give it 90pts.

Нос	91	Overripe fruits in an orchard that have been laying out in the sun, funky smoke more similar to mezcal, ripe dark cherries, ripe blackberries, peaches, berry pie, some vanillas. Something sort of similar to a fragrant black pepper too in the background, and maybe some type of dried flowers or hay. Really interesting stuff
Вкус	90	I know we don't like to use this word, but man is this "smooth". Ethanol is downright undetectable. Dense and viscous, wine sweetness, some saltiness, and of course smoke. More dark cherries, ripe apricots, blackberry jam, ash, pie crust.
Финиш	90	Really longggg finish. Dried fruit, smoke, faint vanillas, you can pick out the red burgundy wine a little more. Nice stuff.

Very rich dark amber color. Oriental spices in the aroma with a wine motif. Chocolate, nuts, tobacco. Delicate smoke) Very concentrated in taste. Good, but lacks kick, not the aha effect. Nose good. But not “heavily peated”. Complete wood aroma. Complex tannin structure leads to an explosion of the mafia-like taste buds. Musty note - very short. There it was: cute and wet raincoat. Soapy, like the other Ballechin we once had. Has some of the Bruichladdich cheese. Little smoke. Rather shorter finish. Smoke expected a little more. Creamy-creamy. Great nose. (Christmas tasting 2023, The Whisky Five, 175€)

Nose of candied cherries, morello cherries, amarena, blackberries, blueberries and blackcurrants, some citrus fruits in the background, nutmeg, cloves, and reflections of forest undergrowth, moss, lichen, bark, ferns, heather. Discreet smoke, quite oily and mineral, which carries fragments of charcoal. On the palate, the fruits are very slightly acidic, more on raspberry, redcurrant, lingonberry, intense spices mixed with an earthy and chalky peat. The finish is long, full, with notes of dark chocolate, chicory, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, saffron, a drop of fuel oil. Нос	87	Nose is packed with dried fruits, rum-chocolate, cherries, cinnamon, walnuts, honey. Water enhances cherry-plum flavours.
Вкус	85	Taste had a strong winey character (spirit character not really reconizeable). Cellar smell - funghi - notes. Some unripe walnuts here. With water it gets really lively, cherries and plums dacing on your tongue.
Финиш	86	Finish is long with winey character fading while giving place for honeyed walnuts. Water addition pushes fruits into the finish too.

But Ballechin and Burgundy are a great combination ???? you can see that the whisky spent 17 years in Burgundy barrels. Very well-arranged, no abv at all, oily and sweet. I expected more smoke, because I remember that in Ballechinu there was usually a lot of smoke and peat, but personally it's enough for me. Plums in chocolate, black tea, soy sauce, varnish, basement, old furniture.

I can nose this for days. In addition to dried fruits, chocolate, and cherry notes, I somehow get a lot of butter / buttered toast on the nose. The palate is winey (fortified wine?) with notes of earthy mushroom. The finish is delicate with a hint of peat in the background - the peat brings all together in the end. Wonderful stuff.

It takes a long time to open up, otherwise you risk drinking colored wine alcohol. Pour no more than 20 ml into a glass. In general, a lot of "dancing with a tambourine" in order to be able to drink, but if you do everything right, you can enjoy it.
