Well this didn’t disappoint…. NOSE - Lashings of toffee and caramel on the nose. For the Scot’s amongst the group it’s like melted Highland Toffee! PALATE - elegant, smooth with some pepper and salted caramel. Sticky toffee pudding with lashings of dates! FINISH - medium-long, really get the lovely oloroso notes with this one. Looking forward to letting this breath for a bit and see how it develops

There is nothing to complain about. A tasty malt that combines pleasant aromas both from the basic maturation and from its finish. Not exactly spectacular, but consistently drinkable.

Beautiful Glenallachie at a good price. The 48% suits him very well. However, full Oloroso maturation would have been interesting. But all in all a good whisky.

charged sherry malt, but varied on the nose; The taste is then no longer as sweet, alcoholic spiciness sometimes prevails; goes into a tart note, but without drifting into bitterness. Typical Oloroso finish malt that is not overdone. If it tasted a little more sweet (like from the nose), then I would probably buy a bottle, so the sample is enough for me. A nice-to-have whisky, but not a must-to-have malt. [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get (second) bottle? Maybe...]

Нос	87	Sweet, dark/red fruits (especially plums soaked in rum raisins, but also wild berries), milk chocolate with a touch of cocoa powder, plus brown sugar, honey, vanilla, caramel, toffee. There is still something nutty to be found behind it, but without being able to say a specific direction; something between almonds and walnuts. Lighter fruits come through again and again, as well as a citrus-fresh moment. For me, the alcohol is basically well integrated, although it always tickles the nose. Over time the sherry transitions into a dry-tobacco-with-leather moment. Gingerbread with typical Christmas spices. With drops of water: it becomes sweeter and stickier, but it also looks "fresher".
Вкус	85	Creamy and spicy, slightly peppery, lots of spices, dark fruits, becomes tart at the end. There was a slight acidic moment at the beginning, but that quickly subsided. Oak tannins, sherry spice (strongly reminiscent of an Oloroso), the sweetness from the nose can no longer be found in the taste - unfortunately. 2nd Sip: fruity, again citrus-fresh acidity. A bit more sweetness (honey, caramel), but also quickly fades away.
Финиш	82	long-lasting sherry spices, dark fruits, tannins. Tart note/dark chocolate.

That was definitely not the right order for this poor Glenallachie. That means something! It had to compete with peaty and sulphuric drams after a tasting. And yet it didn't go under completely. Нос	85	The bouquet is composed of rich and dark fruit tones, some leather and tobacco. A slight acidity resonates, which benefits the complexity of the malt! Overall, I don't find the nose really complex even after a few sips, so the acidity is right here. However, what becomes more intense over time is the milk chocolate. I really like it here. Oh, what else is there? Orange!
Вкус	86	The start is immediately strong. "Rich", meaning very rich in flavors, comes to mind - it performs immediately! Slightly oily but at the same time very accessible and therefore tasty for me. The malt still seems almost sparkling in terms of its degree of maturity, not set. In the wine world, one would probably say racy. It spreads nicely on the palate. Here, too, light leather notes; however, the focus is on the chocolate. I get a hint of nuttiness. Walnut and the pure skin of hazelnuts are what I associate the most. On the palate it develops into chocolate couverture. The RB1 from Callebaut comes to mind here because of the light acid notes paired with the fruit. The acid here is also a carrier that works appropriately. With water, the breadth and intensity gain even more impetus. It becomes significantly drier and, interestingly enough, gets dusty notes that "taste" like old boards left in a barn.
Финиш	86	Warmingly, the malt glides down the esophagus and exudes notes of oak. Medium to long lasting finish. I like it better with water as it has more volume and a sweeter finish.

Modern pimped sherry whisky. Might be o.k.ish for a newbee. My old taste buds tell me: Thin mouthfeel despite 48%, and quite a bitter finish. Where are the 13y? 80+ €/£/$ No way! Hart to keep track with Glenallachie bottlings nowadays. I'd prefer quality over quantity.

Another typical Glenallachie: When Billy Walker bought the distillery, he took over extensive stocks that were never intended to be released as single malt, but were intended for blends. Their pre-maturation was probably often correspondingly weak. But Billy Walker has a reputation as a master of the finish. The longer he practices this at Glenallachie, the more he reaches his limits, the stocks eventually run out and sooner rather than later the good barrels are used up. The question many connoisseurs now ask is: What will the whiskys distilled by Walker taste like? This is another classic Walker bottling: existing whiskys from 1st and 2nd fill American Oak barrels were filled into ex-Oloroso Puncheons for maturation. They have a rich, copper-red color. The malt begins with what the Oloroso finish promises: dried fruit and chocolate. The aromas are well interwoven. Just the right oak influence. Only towards the end does the dirty spiciness typical of Glenallachie come through a little too strongly. But for the price it's a top bottling.

Нос	84	Somewhat unbalanced, alcohol is noticeable, it definitely needs some time in the glass before you can taste it. Vanilla in the background, red berries and some resinous, spicy forest notes in the foreground.
Вкус	85	Sweet but also some sharpness on the palate. The mouthfeel is rather watery light. Later, the resinous-woody-spicy notes with a little mint come to the fore.
Финиш	83	Short to medium length; A certain freshness remains.
