In the past, I had a great fondness for the Yoichi range, especially when it was readily accessible and reasonably priced. Regrettably, this latest release does not match the quality of its predecessor, at least as far as my memory serves. Moreover, I find the exorbitant price charged by avaricious importers to be entirely unwarranted. Although I’m glad to have tasted it, I cannot help but feel that this whisky is not worth the exorbitant price tag. It’s not a terrible whisky, but I would have been gravely disappointed had I paid the asked price for it.
Quick hit review. Yes, we know it's too expensive, but let's focus on the return of the age statement. Citric and slightly yeasty, the nose highlights lime juice, mango and red currants. Sandalwood, rosemary and hints of soot appear. On the palate, tropical fruits, ginger and restrained peat smoke are interwoven with grapefruit, apricot jam and mineral-dry notes. This is well-composed. Lemon, banana and green tea fade in the sweet and sour finish. Although it can't replace the likes of Yoichi 15, it is definitely a step into the right direction. Truly enjoyable and I would love for this Yoichi to be more widely available. It is such a whisky, like the Lagavulin 16 years old, you can always have an opened bottle of in your cabinet. The problem is, for the price of this Yoichi, you can buy two of those Lagavulins. Hoping that this will change in the future. Yoichi deserves a larger following. Grapefruit, limes, sugar biscuits, leaves; the smoke is most noticeable in the finish, mineral, slightly salty, maritime but also slightly medicinal like Laphi. Very round with a nice mouthfeel. Unfortunately overpriced, but still a very good malt.
Nose: Sea salt, sea breeze, lemons, light tar, earthiness, minerality, and peanuts. Mouth: Sweet and rounded. Lemons, tangerines, oranges, and pineapple, moving into minty florals, light burning ash, and burnt charcoal smoke. Finish: Long. Lingering ash and tar, asphalt, wood spice, milk chocolate, leather, and prolonged mocha.

Lemon, peat, and oriental spices. It feels like taking a walk through a Japanese temple in spring. Astonishing quality for a 10-year-old release.

We opened a bottle with slightly different parameters: code 6/120461049, date on the information from the importer - 01/30/2023. Gorgeous fresh nose of green style, the taste is a little watery, not enough body, but overall a very good impression! Almost the perfect dram to drink for every day! 22 20+ 21 21 84+
It's expensive, but it's a delicious and good whisky.

| Нос | 87 | You can feel the smoky peat. It is definitely Yoichi. If you keep smelling it, there is citrus in it. It feels like it is more than 10 years old. |
| Вкус | 87 | It feels soft on the lips and has a smoky and slightly acidic taste. |
| Финиш | 86 | A medium finish with a smoky finish that follows. |

| Нос | 87 | A very strong and dominant note of sandalwood. Tar and light smoke. A very nice honey note creeps up slowly along with grassy and herbal notes. Green apples. Very strong malty notes along with buttered salted toast. Last but not least some fresh green-ish bananas. |
| Вкус | 85 | First thing that hits your palate is ash. Sandalwoof again along with a faint note of vanilla. Honey and green apples again. The body is quite thick and buttery. Black pepper and cough syrup. Unripe fruits. |
| Финиш | 82 | Medium length, clean, crisp, light touch of pepper and honey. |
Immediately resembles a Springbank 10 year old, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the model for Nikka. A nice, intense peat note - not a smoky note! Tasteful and round. Could have used a little more revs...

a vague banana and yellow apple sweetness and hints of butter cookies. Also white bread and dried grassy

The aroma is outstanding, but the taste is a bit watery. However, this flaw doesn't detract from the overall quality; it remains a balanced, easy-drinking whisky with a degree of complexity. As a base whisky from the distillery, it performs its job admirably.
I didn't really smell peat.

A solid malt. But honestly, nothing more than that. Japanese whiskies often seem older than they actually are. That's not the case with this one. It doesn't have the elegance of some others. It's a decent 10-year-old whisky. But it's considerably overpriced for what it is.
Smoky, woody. Japanese hinoki woody. Umami and slightly spicy fruit finish.
Better than Springbank 10 years
Appearance: Medium to deep bronze. Nose: Caramel, typical Yoichi campfire smoke, though less than in the NAS, very malty, biscuits, light peach and apple. Palate: Fruitier flavor, more peach and apricot, apple, vanilla, campfire smoke. Finish: Smoky, with vanilla and spices. With Water: Fruitier and spicier, with less noticeable peat and smoke. Overall: I felt it was not as dynamic as the old 10 year old. The peat is mild, the stone fruit and malt character is big. Very nice but maybe doesn’t quite live up to our hopes and dreams.

Grain, buttery, vanilla and sweet peat. Too suble for me.

Even though I am an opponent of Japanese whiskys especially because of the dubious quality, origin and price policy, I have to admit that this is a really interesting and great whisky. The biggest surprise for me was the surprising similarity with the Springbank brand. I didn't even expect any peat notes, and yet they are there. Otherwise pleasantly vanilla, honey, with notes of mango and papaya, heather, honey sweetness, maybe subtle hints of leather and beer kvass. On my own, I probably would never have tasted this whisky because I boycott whisky from this country, but I would like to thank Peter Praženek for providing me with a sample of this liquid, it was a really pleasant experience!

a very excellent nose, that reminds me of the elegant bunna 12's from the 70's.. with notes of freshly ground coffee, some wood polish, orange rind and dark teas.. it's not the same level on the palate and in the finish, but it's still a very accomplished dram.

Yoichi's unique character, grassy, fresh fruit, pleasantly tongue-in-cheek taste, relatively rich body

apple, strawberry, grape, mango, vanilla, flower, soft medicinal Is this 10 years old? It was surprising that the scent layers were so diverse. Although it was soft in taste, I could mostly feel the taste from the nosing... However, the alcohol content was a bit disappointing. I wish it had been more intense.

Different fruits than in the Yoichi NAS and a much longer finish in comparison. In contrast to the old 10s, there is less sherry and no more vanilla.

| Нос | 87 | Very sweet nose, slightly peaty and smoky, with bitter almond, pepper and a veil of camphor. Once again, it is the balance that is more important than the complexity. |
| Вкус | 88 | In the mouth it is creamy, on light peat, smoke, cold ash. Pepper, orange peel, almond. |
| Финиш | 87 | Long finish on peat, smoke, the sweetness of a little candy. |

Tasted at Golden Promise, Paris, 02/23. Overall it's very good, but like many other Scotch whiskies, I personally find it clearly inferior to the previous 10YO OB bottling. The peaty/smoky side is much more discreet; it seems to lose some of its character.
