I didn't expect much, but I have to say I'm impressed.

| Нос | 87 | In a direct tasting comparison to its component single malts, the Miyagikiyo (WB72932) and the Yoichi (WB73011), it seems to rely more heavily on the Yoichi, which lends it its smoky, oily, weighty character. It also seems more mature than its NAS single malt siblings, and displays more spicy, fragrant oak. Whether or not there's a detectable Mizunara influence I don't feel qualified to determine. The soft smoke, the vibrant sour fruit, the spiciness – there's a touch of Talisker to this bottling. I daresay the nose profits from the tiny amount of dilution (43 rather 45 percent), which makes it rounder and more fudgy and brings out the fruity and floral aspects a bit more. Surprisingly complex, elegant and refined. Really lovely. |
| Вкус | 85 | Noticeably thinner than its constituent single malts, but also less hot and feisty, so the pros and cons nearly balance each other out. The oak here has a nice textural kick to it and flavor-wise it imparts an exotic touch (sandalwood?) that's really interesting. While I prefer the fuller character of the single malt bottlings, and it's nice to have the 2% more, at least as an option, this is not substantially worse in comparison. Let's subtract a point for the diminished mouthfeel. |
| Финиш | 86 | Nicely sweet and smoky, but also still grassy / floral / fruity, with a mineral touch. Reminds me quite a bit of Highland Park, Clynelish, Pulteney, or Oban. |
It is difficult because there are so many small scents. It has various notes, but it is a shame that the sweetness is not strong.

Rather light and easy but still good level of complexity and fruitiness – very drinkable

| Нос | 90 | Fruity, little honey, ripe yellow plum, apple, apricot, little seabreeze, whiffs of oak wood – very good |
| Вкус | 89 | Fresh, fruity, little punchy, subtle sweetness more ripe yellow fruits, apple, plum, peach, white grape, little citric, little salty, fine notes of oak wood, little spicy, pepper – still good |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium long, warm, more spicy, little more oak wood but far from drying |
Wood, black pepper, dried fruits, nuts, black grapes, green apples, oranges, espresso, tobacco, milk chocolate. Sweet and savoury at the same time. A touch of smoke in the background. Delicate, but also robust. Very intriguing. I went into this with mild expectations, but this is excellent!

Very similar to Yoichi NAS. Somewhat more fruity and less eccentric.
A very pleasant surprise for me. For an NAS whisky, this is exceptionally settled, complex, and balanced. I must have tasted one of the better batches...

Not a bad whisky. Nicely crafted blend with a lot of citrus and lemon fruits.

| Нос | 85 | directly a lot of lemon and citrus fruits combined with a few sweet flavors. A little smoke shows up but it is not intense and is just a bit noticeable. |
| Вкус | 86 | Also here are the same fruity flavors like the once you find in the nose. feel young but with nice fresh flavors. |
| Финиш | 84 | nice fruity finish with a slightly smoky flavor. Not specially long but not short either. |
Nikka's new transparency rebutted the rumor that Taketsuru Pure Malt contains Ben Nevis, so this is authentic Japanese whisky. Green apples, gooseberries and honeydew melon are first to greet the nose before lemongrass, chamomile and subtle peatiness emerge. The palate showcases the flavor profiles of Miyagikyo and Yoichi, moving from a fruity-floral arrival towards a modestly peaty and gingery-dry development. Lingering oak, green tea and whiffs of smoke remain in the medium finish. I daresay that it is even better than its predecessor. Kanpai! RATING: 3.5/5.0 stars ≙ 84 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE

It's a great marriage between Miyagikio and Yoichi. Nothing is off. Fairly well balanced.

A beautiful nose! Flowers and meadow, honey, sweet blossoms. Fine wood notes round it off. The taste is a little more bitter, the wood is stronger. Do I smell some smoke? That can't really be true. Appears elegant, drinkable. Better than expected…
This was really good, I must say during that whole Japanese whisky boom, I did get a little jaded especially with prices just climbing like Tesla shares. So when this came out, I was mildly hesitant, but for the price, what the hey. And that turned out to be such a good call. This was such a strong showing and I can’t rave about it enough. Some people scoff at NAS bottlings but trust me, this just took the cake. Wonderfully complex with all the right notes, it didn’t feel forced or suffered at the hands of some accelerated maturation. Yet its Japanese profile was distinctive from the nose and so nostalgic. Bottomline, light yet complex, plays all the right notes, it hits the sweet spot for most Asian palate, price is great as well. Blind tasting Immediately very fruity. But somehow artificially fruity. Like perfumed. Smells 1:1 like the sour apple rings from Haribo. Strong pear. Soft and elegant on the tongue. Almost creamy. The fruit now gives way to a maltiness. Becomes more grainy. Very slightly sweet. But then it flattens out very quickly and fades away quite quickly. Could be a young Japanese man. But not a blend, but the grain note is missing.

It has a relatively high viscosity and a moderately intense bouquet. I detect aromas of vanilla, crème brûlée, honey, and yellow fruits. Not particularly complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated, and it has a relatively heavy body.

Clean nose, fruity apple, pear and plum with notes of lemon and honey. A touch of peaty. Fruity taste with black pepper, candied fruits, orange and notes of tobacco. Finish Correct length that ends on spicy, coffee and smoky notes. Very well made whisky that is both sweet, salty and peaty. Balanced and delicious. To recommend.
Nice easy drinking dram, despite low ABV it has some complexity too. From fruity winegums through cider (perry) right up to plum pipe tobacco aroma.

I was at first a bit disappointed as the old one seemed a bit richer, probably because of more sherry casks than this new one in the composition of the vatting. But it grows on you, the richness being replaced by a welcomed freshness. A bit more smoke too thanks to the bigger part taken by Yoichi in this one compared to the previous edition. No idea yet about the recommended retail price in Europe or even in UK, but for your information the RRP is ¥4000 before taxes in Japan, about €32 or a tad under £30. Probably €40-50 in France and £35-45 in the UK once it’ll be available I guess. Now do I like it more than the old one? No. Do I like it less? Neither. I’d say I would probably sip the new one in the summer and the old one in the winter.

| Нос | 82 | Fresher nose than the old Taketsuru (with the black label). More on stone fruits and citrus, the nose is a wee bit prickly, letting you think the abv may be slightly higher than the old release, though it’s not (same 43% abv). There is still a tartness side to it, but maybe more on stone fruits here, plums? The sherry notes almost disappeared, letting me wondering if sherry casks are still part of the recipe. |
| Вкус | 85 | Definitely more Yoichi now than the previous release. Smokier, more on citrus, quite a lot of citrus in fact. There is a quick sweetness appearing but immediately taken over by a citrusy spiciness (light touch of ginger), then back to fruits with fruit salad syrup. After some time some notes I associate with sherry finally appear, with dark chocolate, even loads of it. The mouthfeel getting a bit creamy, I really have the feeling of eating some chocolate pudding. |
| Финиш | 85 | Long finish, hot, spicy, with smoked chocolate (I’m sure that exists somewhere… okay, it really does). The chocolate stays quite long on the tongue, I still have it after a few minutes. |

A blended malt whisky. Chill-filtered, coloured. Thick fast primary legs. Mid-size slow straight secondary legs. Trailing droplets.
Young, harsh limited flavour complexity and expensive for a NAS blend. Was expecting more.
S 8 I’ve long been dismissing this and categorised it into the highball-malt group. But as I’m exposed to more whiskies, I find the need to revisit this properly and put my prejudices aside. A very decent blended malt indeed, there’s no doubt majority of the the content is young and the ABV is low, but at the same time it retains a lot of the characters from the source malt. Good buy when on sale (~60CAD)

| Нос | 84 | Ripe yellow fruits and a trace of wet, earthy peat. Then fresh oak staves dipped in honey. Reminds me a lot of Yoichi and non-heavily peated Ben Nevis. Smouldering coal. Toasted Brazil nuts. Quite a heavy nose despite the ABV. |
| Вкус | 85 | Honeyed yellow fruits and charred spices landing. Burning cinnamon sticks, star anise, cardamom. Macadamia. Started with a gently oily mouthful that slowly dries out. The alcohol spikes are hinting its youth but the lower ABV does a good job keeping the balance. |
| Финиш | 83 | Short-mid finish with lingering ashy peat. |
A very typical Japanese whisky

| Нос | 86 | Very light, with hints of sandalwood, green apple, and grass—a typical Japanese whisky style. |
| Вкус | 86 | Smooth on the palate, with no alcoholic aftertaste, sweet and mellow, with notes of incense, pine needles, and grassy and green apple flavors. |
| Финиш | 85 | The aftertaste is rather short, still retaining a crisp, woody aroma with a slightly bitter undertone. |

This is a fairly thin dram, and rather straightforward in it's main notes. It's development however is quite enjoyable from nose, through palate and onto the medium finish. Overall it's very enjoyable and sufficiently interesting though I can't say, as a blend of Yoichi and Miyagikyo malts, that it's more than the sum of it's parts. The interplay between the two is somewhat back and forth which makes it interesting to me, as compared to other blended malts. Unfortunately the pricing is excessive for what this is.

| Нос | 82 | Starts off bright, with classic malt notes of pear and red apple. Every other whiff a hint of smoke creeps in, but doesn't linger at all. Savory notes, perhaps white pepper tickle the nose. Not much development after the initial impressions. |
| Вкус | 85 | The orchard fruits are only mild and quickly retreat. The palate is almost a reversal of the nose, with a lot more smoke on top of a malty sweetness, but again it's more white pepper than peat smoke. |
| Финиш | 85 | A malty bitterness is present initially, but quickly blends with the smokey side of this dram, the Yoichi influence. The smoke is most developed here, reaching a gentle crescendo into a herbal, spicy, and slightly sweet spearmint. |
Aside from the fact that it's a bit Japanese-inspired, there aren't any major advantages. Considering the price, I don't see any reason to buy it.

Appearance: Pale golden-amber. Nose: Fruity citrus and stone fruits, malt sugar, apricot, pineapple, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, fresh fruit. Palate: Sweet and fruity, light smoke, malt sugar, honey, apple, light vanilla, pepper, pineapple bubble gum. Finish: Pepper, honey, vanilla. Overall: Very fruity and sweet, somewhat childish. Tasty, though, and possibly better than the old version. Simple and young but tastes nice.
Floral, toffee, smoke. Like it more than the yoichi and miyagikyo.
