In Whiskyland, some whiskies really do sing, and this Laphroaig is one of them. Created from a 50/50 marriage of two refill hogsheads, v.97 and v.00. The mix was bottled at natural marrying strength and expresses everything we adore about mature Laphroaig. Nose: A soft start, full of gentle, unfurling peat smoke, assorted dried green, citrus and exotic fruits, bone dry coastal inclusions, minerals, pebbles and gentle medicinal notes of bandage and gauze. Gorgeously intricate, it continues with heather, wood smoke, hessian and TCP - hyper-classical distillery profile for lovers of mature Laphroaig. Palate: Brine, anchovy paste, seawater, lemon juice and rich, mature peat notes. Getting bigger, fatter and more emphatical and powerful now; a wonderful evolution from the more gentle and complex nose. Amazing oily and waxy texture, with thick peat smoke and peppery flavours, involving dried seaweed, black olive and resinous fir wood. Finish: Long, superbly coastal and peaty, sharp, chiseled, lemony, waxy, medicinal and full of camphor, tar, hessian and yet still a few glimmers of fruits persist.
