Old Arran 10 years old

Our Island Hop continues with a trip to the bonnie, bucolic and intermittently rugged Isle of Arran. Often described as 'Scotland in miniature', we've attempted to reflect this tourist marketing line by creating a small-batch, multi-faceted Arran single malt that 'contains multitudes' - so to speak. Two thirds of this bottling is from a v.14, unpeated, 2nd fill sherry hogshead, which we married with one third from a v.16, heavily peated, 1st fill bourbon barrel. The resulting mix, bottled at an approachable 52%, shows a balanced profile of soft, nutty, salty sherry and underlying warming peat smoke. Wild and rugged, yet balanced and gentle - just the sort of cognitive dissonance that the Arran Tourist Office would like us to maintain. Nose: Leafy and earthy, with salty notes, cured game meats, bonfire smoke and petrichor. Some black olive umami vibes and gentle coastal qualities too Palate: Spicy, smoky, earthy, peaty and richly mouthfilling! Finish: Long, back of leafy, smoky, leathery and gently tarry variations
