Quirky in a good way: Dim charcoal notes meet sherry sweetness (milk chocolate, dates, pear, plum) and a hint of salt. There's also a rubbery note that, unfortunately, doesn't quite fit for me. All in all, though, it works. 87/100 or 6/10

Just my first impressions off a neck pour, this whisky is going to take a few months in the bottle to really open up, it's phenomenal. It reminds me of the traditional bourbon cask strength batch 1 and 2 but even thicker on the palate and even better integrated. It has some hints of the inaugural release with the sherry cask but a different overall balance. The finish is similar to the standard cask strength, not really cardboard at all like some other guy said. When you first pop this bottle, there is a strong rubber/permanent marker note and it actually comes off as dry and super ashy like cigar smoke. I gave it about 3 hours in the glass with a cap on it and it blossomed into a great whisky that I can tell I will be very pleased with in a few months, I will come and update this review then. It's a powerful whisky and it takes water really well without the flavor falling apart. It's much more complex than the bourbon cask, cask strength. I seem to love young whisky, as long as the new make powdered doughnut note gets enough time in the cask to dissipate and this is a very well done whisky.

Нос	90	Smoke, a little bit of sherry, not as sherry forward as I was expecting, the bourbon cask is able to shine through. The initial nose before I gave it time was a little offensive, raw, rubber notes tons of smoke and very tight, you couldn't smell through down to the malt. Give this whisky time. This whisky is going to be amazing with some old bottle effect to it. The nose is this whisky's strong suit so far. It's got fuel notes to it but it's very inviting.
Вкус	90	The palate is amazing, everything I could ask for really, really dense and complex. The fruit doesn't really come through until later on the palate. Initially there's tons of smoke and some honey and a balanced sherry sweetness. Less sherry than I was expecting. I need a few more tries of this to fully pick this apart appropriately. It's not a beginner whisky and requires time and careful tasting.
Финиш	89	The finish is the only place where this whisky is lacking a little. I think this is where more time in the bottle to oxidize is going to really improve things just like the bourbon cask strength needed time here to fully come out of it's shell. How is it lacking? Well its a fine finish, it just dies in intensity a bit compared to the nose and palate. I think it really just needs more air. The aftertaste is pleasant and hangs around a long time. This is a fresh crack review.

Ardnahoe 6 Year Old – Chairman’s Choice A Tribute to Stewart Hunter Laing • Islay This Ardnahoe 6 Year Old Chairman’s Choice is a tribute to the late Stewart Hunter Laing, founder and chairman of Ardnahoe Distillery, who passed away on 10 April 2026 at the age of 79. This expression is said to have the highest peat level (PPM) produced by the distillery to date, and judging by the whisky in the glass, that claim certainly makes an impression. The whisky has a beautiful bright golden-yellow colour and leaves a thick, oily film on the glass, with slow-moving tears running down the sides. What a powerhouse! I am genuinely surprised by just how intense the peat is in this Ardnahoe. At times, it almost reminds me of a heavily peated Ardbeg, although I miss the brighter citrus notes and the heavy tar doesn't linger for quite as long. The contrast between the relatively light palate and the absolutely explosive finish makes this a fascinating dram. A fittingly powerful tribute to Stewart Hunter Laing and an impressive statement from a young Islay distillery.

Нос	89	Heavy peat hits immediately, followed by fresh apple, tree bark and anise. There are subtle notes of cinnamon and freshly shaved oak, together with floral aromas and vanilla powder. Light tar develops in the background, while heavy ash and gorse blossom add even more depth. Powerful, smoky and distinctly maritime.
Вкус	89	The whisky enters surprisingly light and relatively thin, with a smooth texture. Light peat smoke combines with fresh apple, pepper and seaweed. Compared with the nose and especially the finish, the palate feels considerably more restrained.
Финиш	90	BAM! What an absolutely insane finish. ???? The whisky suddenly explodes with intense pepper and heavy, dark peat. Anise and vanilla appear alongside charred wood and charcoal. The finish keeps going and going, leaving a long-lasting peppery tingle on the palate. Smouldering campfire and ash complete the experience.

"...not for the faint of heart! It resembles a derailed Victorian steam locomotive with 20 carriages on the seashore. It is fully loaded with coal, erasers, lemons, and PX sherry. During the emergency braking, everything sprays glowing sparks. It is seconds away from the inevitable explosion of the locomotive's boiler due to total overheating, with a sooty chimney shrouded in black clouds."

Of course, it's very good for a 6-year-old, but I don't quite understand the hype. The extremely high ratings don't seem justified to me. On the nose, it's already quite rounded and almost elegant. Light vanilla with bright, fresh fruit. The smoke leans more towards rubber and damp ash. On the palate, this impression continues. Smoke takes the lead, leading to notes of car tires and marine diesel engines. The finish is very powerful, but also has weaknesses. Unfortunately, it leaves a damp, cardboard-like aftertaste that lingers for a long time. In conclusion: For its age, it's very well done. However, the price is equally ambitious and therefore not proportionate in my opinion. Ultimately, it's quite interchangeable.

I was swayed by the numerous reviews and ordered a bottle. I'm not quite as enthusiastic as I'd hoped. It reminds me a lot of the Ardara from Ireland.

Нос	87	A distinctive smoke with strong industrial notes (tire abrasion, engine room, cold ash). Underlying these are hints of dried fruit and burnt, spicy wood.
Вкус	87	Smoke is very present and mouth-filling. Then comes the sherry with sweet raisin notes, spicy oak, coal dust, and salt.
Финиш	86	Very long, spicy with some sherry notes. However, it becomes very bitter towards the end, and that bitterness doesn't go away.
