Wow, what a dram - elements of the distillate, barrel all coming together in a beautiful way. Wonderful!!! Color: A light, faint yellow. Nose: Stewed apples and smoked ham Taste: Starts off with a simple oaky bitterness, but wow - caramel sweetness comes into the fray, vanilla, with a savory peat at the end. Finish: Some vanilla and sweetness, and a nice oakiness that lingers for a long time.

| Нос | 86 | Green olives... No scratch that... An olive tree has catched on fire. Brine mixed with lemon and huge vanilla hit from the bourbon casks. VERY earthy and green. Don't quite think i've had whisky before that has reminded me so much of straight up dirt/rocky earth. Not the most intriguing but still somewhat interresting... With time however it helps... The olives turn to somehthing a bit more fruity and rounded. |

If you thought the secret to the Kilerran 8's was in the sherry part, think again! The bourbon release is the true way to experience the Zen of Kilkerran! Don't add water, it gives bitterness. There is no point in repeating my notes in detail, since the style completely repeats the Springbank style! 22 22 22 22

S 8 Not exactly heavily peated when you compare with cage bottles at similar age or earlier batches, but I really like this as it has a lot more balance in there and remind me of some of the best Springbank 10s batches.

| Нос | 86 | Rather close on first sniff. Oak char. sugary fruits. Wet earth. Chalk. Dried nori seasoned with salt. Soft but dirty peat smoke. Very, very tricky as it smells more Springbank than Springbank. |
| Вкус | 87 | A lot of citrusy. Pomelo. Grapefruit skin. Burning peat. Crushed peppercorn. Mouthcoatingly juicy and spicy. Soft honey and vanilla. Wet, earthy smouldering bonfire. Getting fruitier as it swirls. Fermented rice. Lovely. Why I like about cask strength Kilkerran. |
| Финиш | 85 | Mid, slightly drying but also waxy finish. The yellow fruits impression continues. |
Well, I also had a chance to taste such a wonderful release (I thought it was wonderful - that's why I bought it). I opened the bottle, poured it, waited 20 minutes... And what did I feel when the aroma pierced my brain? Good question) But for me it was too obvious as an answer. It reminds me so much Talisker 10. Yes, that's right. In a blind tasting, I personally would hardly be able to tell them apart, but nevertheless it is a successful release and thank God that it will not be on a regular basis, next year will offer something new. Quite powerful, rich, bright, oily. Auto repair shop oils and fresh tree bark, ozone, wet earth - it's all there. A quality thing, but... for me personally there was no WOW effect, sorry for being blunt.

Sweet, spice, deep, long, funky garage, wet gravel, asphalt, freshly laid road.
Well, well. A few months have passed. The bottle is almost finished, and the whisky has managed to open up wonderfully. Over time, the transformation is obvious — softer, more citrusy, more complex. More young, more waxy, more herbal. Less grainy. + points. 89

| Нос | 88 | Wonderful, such a full bourbon nose. There are some young yeast notes. But they are quickly covered by wonderful lemon-apple-peach waves. Wildflowers on a hot sunny day. The signature Springbank stable with horses and sheep )) |
| Вкус | 89 | Such wonderful barrels! Vanilla, not too much, marzipan, peach pit, lots of tones of baked lemon. Hay, oatmeal. Pear. Green and then yellow apple. White and pink pepper. The oak barrel adds a light, pleasant bitterness. A little peat. |
| Финиш | 87 | Medium. With notes of peat and a sweet, slightly bitter aftertaste. Great! Bravo! |
This upside about this Kilkerran is that it has been kept away from sherry casks, the downside is that this is too young to have developed enough complexity to do anything more than deliver a fresh kick of Campbeltown funk, which is always welcome. The vanilla and sweetness from the first fill casks are sadly already too much for the spirit. Kilkerran remains a puzzling distiller in that it has been around long enough that I expected some great bottlings by now. But somehow the best I have tried remain the Work in Progress bourbon casked versions, and they now seem stuck bottling young whiskies with unfulfilled potential such as this, or older versions from poor casks that do not complement the spirit.
Tasted from a small (1cl) sample as a warmup to some more mature Springbanks. It’s one of the better ones in the series, with a lovely meaty fattiness on the nose. I find it difficult to get too excited about these young Kilkerrans, as it seems quite a slow-maturing distillate to me, and they tend to go downhill on the palate and especially the finish. They can, however, show incredible textures on the nose, as the oiliness of maturation plays with the waxy-mineral aspects of the distillate. This one does that well.
нос · вкус · финиш
| Нос | 89 | Young, but without feintiness, the signs of mature Kilkerran are starting to show - an oiliness in the texture on the nose, along with some nice green citrus fruit. It’s big, bold and fatty, with notes of suet, pork crackling and paraffin, it’s hard not to love this distillate. Under these oilier aspects, there is still the bone-dry, punchy minerality of young Kilkerran, a definite signature of the 8yo cask strength range. Very simple, but I just love these animal fats. |
| Вкус | 87 | Nice, oily and fruity, quite well-behaved. Floral, with fatty maltiness, loads of coastal mineral notes and some tart citrus, very nice. The more youthful aspects are apparent, but are kept well in check. |
| Финиш | 85 | One of the better finishes among these young Kilkerrans, I think. It isn’t a mess of crusty fusels, instead, there’s already some citrus, a little oiliness, and quite some herbal peat. Not bad. |
Very well done, pleasantly musty, a little smoke and tropical fruits.

A distinctive fresh fruity/herbal, smokey/spicy concoction, that's hard to pinpoint — very much unlike the standard Kilkerran characteristics I'm used to. Water helps break down the strong alcohol and open up the flavours. It grows on you— but all in all, a memorable bottling.

After Batch #8, the last Bourbon Cask batch in the series to date, was a disappointment for me, I was very curious to see whether Glengyle would follow the same path with Batch #11, or perhaps follow the path that the distillery initially paved with Batches #1-#3 - all matured in Bourbon Casks. And how nice: Batch #11 has nothing in common with the tangy Batch #8; it reminds me more of Batch #2, which I have nothing but fond memories of. That's exactly how I would make myself a young ex-bourbon Kilkerran.

| Нос | 88 | Distinctly mineral, it appears very fresh and maritime. Smoked pineapple slices, lime zest, orange, grapefruit, yellow apple, rapeseed honey, and vanilla. Here and there, I think I can detect a hint of peat smoke. |
| Вкус | 89 | A powerful and mouth-filling entry, dry from the start. Grapefruit juice, pineapple, oranges, sweetened tangerine water, honey and vanilla, crumbly yeast dough cookies, and milk chocolate. Maritime accents also emerge from the beginning in the palate, with a recurring hint of saltwater-drenched pebble. When I encounter pebbles at Kilkerran, it's almost exclusively in bottlings from the bourbon cask. |
| Финиш | 88 | Medium-length finish, still dry (and even drier here than on the palate). Salt & pepper, smoked pineapple slices, grapefruit, a touch of dried herbs, and milk chocolate. Just like the nose, a hint of peat smoke permeates the finish. |

The most Springbank-like Kilkerran I have had so far, absolutely fantastic!
Delicious
The peat in this relatively new Mitchell's distillery is different than some older bourbon barrel outputs. To the good. Even though this and Springbank are both in Campbeltown, and apparently the same owner, they are different. The present cost here is way above what its listed for in Europe, but again assuming its the same, quality does count. So beware. So with inflation, tariffs and whatever else... I still give it high marks. From the distillate I get toast, almonds, heather, and a relatively long finish. Also, barbecued meat, new mown hay, baked chicken, baked halibut. The peat is soft, persistent, flowery. High rating for its complexity. Tasted again December 2025. Some changes in opinion. Now seems a little too much peat, which doesn't marry that well with the distillate. Maybe not left in cask long enough to pick up its character of vanilla and woodiness.
Aroma: smoke, gunpowder, tropical fruits, vanilla, apricot, apples, cream, multifruit gum, light marine notes, hay, minerality87.5 Taste: alcohol is felt, intense, tart, pepper, nectarines, pineapple, vanilla, citrus peel, orange, light grassiness, young wood, minerals, leather, dirty peat, pomelo, a little cream, condensed milk 87 Finish: spicy, vanilla, lots of oak, peel, earthy peat, dried herbs 87. Sweeter than my benchmark for the 8 year old bourbon cask Kilkerrans (batch 2), however still ultra complex and layered, with all the familiar Kilkerran (and Springbank) notes, just with the sweetness setting dialled up.
First off, already looking foward to a re-review, from what I've read it's getting even better over time with some air - and perhaps a few drops of water. First impressions are positive, it's got depth, the Springbank-funk hit me stronger with this Kerran than maybe ever before, and I like me a good quality bourbon cask maturation - which this examplifies. There is a nice sweetness and warmth to it, but for me almost too much smoke, maybe just a matter of getting used to it, but I like the sublety of smoke in quite a few Springers as well as - to a at least formally even lesser extent - Kilkerrans. The smoke level does not seem too far off their heavily peated expressions, but I'd have to get into a H2H to confirm. Complexity and maturity falls off in contrast to (a good) batch of Springer 12 cs, but for the years given - and not "cheating" with splendid sherry casks coating - this is honestly a very good 8 yo malt which I recommend. But, alas, you must like the smokier side of Kilkerran. :-)

Already loved by whisky connoisseurs, the cask eight from Kilkerran, 11 batch, this time aged in ex-bourbon casks. The release has batch strength and natural characteristics. Vanilla, flower pollen, hay, sea salt, coal dust, cinnamon, spicy spices, leather, tannins Finish: Warming, peppery, vanilla, black pepper, malty sweetness, charcoal crumble, worn leather, salt, bitter tannins Balance: a bright, rich, complex, memorable creamy-mineral whisky from Campbelltown. Proved to everyone that cask 8s from Kilkerran can be good not only in wine terms. An exemplary young cask whisky in a bourbon frame, simply conquered me with its creaminess and natural vanilla. | Нос | 88 | Immediately after pouring, a strong phenolic smoke emerges, accompanied by a citrus note and a hint of floor wax. After a while, the smoke recedes slightly, the citrus becomes sweeter—I'd almost say passion fruit notes—and then the dark peat sweetness finally emerges. After a few minutes, the aroma is so beautifully integrated that it makes your mouth water. |
| Вкус | 89 | A very powerful start and a beautifully rounded malt, where sweetness and lemon immediately create a lovely interplay. This is complemented by delicately bitter notes, and it finishes with a drying effect. The mouthfeel is very oily. The second sip is not quite as strong, but the interplay of aromas now seems even juicier and more palatable. |
| Финиш | 89 | The finish is pleasantly long, leaving a lovely warming sensation in the chest. A touch of menthol accompanies the sweetness and delicate bitterness as it slowly fades. A sweetened ash lingers on the tongue for what seems like an eternity. In the second sip, the warming sensation in the chest becomes even more noticeable; otherwise, the lemony sweetness lasts even longer this time. |

Yes yes yes, this is by far the nicest batch of the 8 year old Kilkerran I've had so far - probably because all the others have been either port or sherry. The Springbank DNA runs right through the nose and the taste, and you could easily mistake it for one. Beautifiul, oily mouthfeel. Classic ex-bourbon cask notes alongside the Campbeltown funk, without going too heavy in the vanillas. Quality bourbon casks were used and the batch was expertly blended. It's not super complex, but it is "only" 8 years old after all. No aggressiveness despite its young age. There is a nice peaty grapefruit type of bitterness in the taste and finish, a very interesting note. Nicely salty too with a bit of sweetness, but not too much. Very enjoyable and with a couple of drops of water this is a very dangerous one. Like someone else said: this is as good as an 8 year old Scotch can be.

A pretty interesting, though young, release. I’m not a fan of cask releases where the alcohol isn’t well integrated. An interesting cask, and excellent aging work. After 40 minutes and a couple of drops of water, it became quite drinkable, developing sweetness while remaining bright and juicy. It brings to mind drinking Riesling: just as bright, tart, and juicy. Not quite my type of daily dram, but I’m drawn to fresh releases, and a high-quality bourbon is a classic—and, in fact, very good.
Mouthfeel is top of the line , the cask used was obviously class. Kilkerran are in the zone ive had nothing but nice stuff from them. There is a hazelnut sort of chestnut finish on this that is really nice -complements the bitter notes from the wood and the sugary/honeycake contrast.

| Нос | 90 | Fermented lemon in front. Just behind it, supporting, is vanilla. A bit of alcohol sting, but not much for the age - well integrated. Very inviting |
| Вкус | 90 | Syrupy first, mostly texture-wise. Then comes spices and the lemon note. Strong taste on the delivery. Some vanilla and ashiness when the lemon subsides. There is hay in the background as well. Heavy barrel influence, but there is still distillery character in there. Creamy vanilla. Great stuff |
| Финиш | 89 | There isn't a lot of evolving after the initial experience on the taste. The finish is rather clean and leaves a bit of the bitter parts of the lemon lingering |
Color: golden. Nose: wrapping paper, ash, electrical tape, heated rosin, rye bread with caraway, bacon, cherries, apples, peat, tooth powder, engine oil, oatmeal, pine needles, black peppercorns, apricots, a bit of smoke, wet newspaper, lemons, dried herbs. Beautiful. Taste: oily notes, honey, lychees, red apples, apricots, pepper, peat, lemons, vanilla, medicinal herbs, barberries, chocolate. Starts off sweet, but oh what a lovely acidity follows. Finish: lemons, orange marmalade, quinces, pears, pepper, dark chocolate, mint, a touch of peat, vanilla, medicinal herbs. Conclusion: this Kilkerran is bourbon cask matured, and what a beauty it is. Sometimes it feels just like Springbank. 91/100. I think this is the best Kilkerran out of fourteen I have tried between 2019 and 2025. A truly great Campbeltown malt.
