Not my favourite expression of the distillery. It's too young, too smoke forward and the mouthfeel was just watery to me. The issue a lot of us whisky geeks have is that we experienced the Billy Walker era and we know what this distillery is (was) capable of - arguably available at prices that were below market value. We probably have a big stash of those bottlings (guilty as charged) and we have seen how Brown-Forman professionally and corporately annihalated Glendronach's once prominent reputation amongst whisky afficionados - first by dropping the non-chill filtered and natural colour statement from some of its bottlings, then increasing the prices as if whisky was actually getting scarce, and finally just not being able to deliver the quality the high premium requires. Visit the distillery and gone are the days of high quality, correctly priced hand fills, ran by people who were actually passionate for the product. But I digress. The point I'm trying to make is that we have too much background with the distillery, so when we are presented with these new marketing-led NAS whiskies, we almost feel sorry for the distillery, and because we find glimpses of "the good old days" in them, we want to like them but realistically we have to just come to the conclusion that they are too young and too expensive for what they are. Unfortunately that's how Brown-Forman "positioned" the range, and hence it'll just sit on the shelves, together with the now vastly overpriced 15 and 18. A shame, because Glendronach used to be my favourite distillery.

Peated with sherry. Lovely nose and a meh palate. Toward burnt tires. 80/100. Bumping to 82/100 with time.
On the initial nosing, honey roasted nuts and a subtle smoke, but more like something that was cold smoked. Another reviewer mentioned an odd smoked salmon aroma and I did get that. Feels thin and watery. Not complex on the palate, mostly honey, nuts and a brittle flavor.short, mild cinnamon finish. You can taste some youth here.
With Ode to the Embers, Glendronach demonstrates that the venerable distillery is capable of forging new paths beyond its classic sherry-forward whiskies. This whisky impressively combines Glendronach's signature rich and fruity sherry profile with a subtle yet distinct smokiness – a rare interplay seldom found at the distillery. On the nose, the whisky initially presents itself as pleasantly complex and warm: dark fruits, flambéed oranges, and notes of gravy create depth and spice, while lightly toasted wood and herbs lend structure. The delicate smoke remains in the background at first, but blends elegantly into the overall profile without being overpowering. A hint of nut brittle and cinnamon harmoniously rounds off the bouquet and clearly reveals the influence of maturation in sherry and smoke casks. On the palate, Ode to the Embers is creamy and full-bodied. The typical Glendronach notes of raisins and dark berries are complemented here by walnut and dark chocolate – a successful balance between sweetness, spice, and bitter elements. The smoke is slightly more pronounced than on the nose, yet remains consistently controlled, lending the whisky depth without overpowering it. The finish is long and gently warming, characterized by subtle spice notes, a hint of raisins, and a delicate peat smoke. Here, the harmonious blend of sherry charm and smoky elegance is once again evident. Overall, the Glendronach Ode to the Embers is an exceptional whisky within the distillery's range – not a classic Glendronach, but an exciting, characterful variation that should delight lovers of sherry cask maturation with a touch of smoke. At 48.4% ABV, it possesses sufficient strength to carry the diverse aromas without seeming alcoholic or unbalanced.

I immediately thought of the Glendronach Peated. It is a bit “nasty” but a bit smokier than the old Peated. Nice! Aftertaste is not super long but still drinkable.

Overall - this is well executed. Tasty, too.
Contains a high proportion of grain, smoke for me is more towards smoked which is almost non-existent on the palate and in the finish, a very young and unbalanced profile - 14.03.2025

| Нос | 82 | Grain, smoked or toasted bread, wood, spicy, red grape juice, vanilla |
| Вкус | 78 | Woody, sherry sweetness, hardly any smoke, toffee, oak spice |
| Финиш | 82 | Short, malty, mint chocolate |
A peculiar Glendronach, or rather curious: it reminds me vaguely of a mild version of the Ben Nevis McDonald's Traditional. Not necessarily bad, but also a long way from good. An 'Ode to the Embers' looks different in my opinion.

| Нос | 83 | Creamy, fruity, spicy. Unclearly classifiable. |
| Вкус | 82 | Pepper, spicy fruit. Blackberry schnapps? |

A-typical GD, the smoky touch is certainly there although not very promiment. Enough to take away the recognizable Dronach-vibes though. But besides that, it is a pleasant whisky.

| Нос | 86 | Full scent, the woodsmoke is immediately there. Burnt nuts, red fruits, like sniffing Glühwein while sitting at a campfire. |
| Вкус | 86 | Quite some power, spicy, black pepper. Less smoky than the nose, although some woodsmoke and ashy touches. Red fruits, berries, prunes. |
| Финиш | 87 | Still some spicy power, black pepper, but less than the body. Again some slight ashy notes, warming in the belly, red fruity, berries. Pretty long finish. |
I like this a lot. Def an easy drinking dram to chil on

Slightly bacony, smoky and spicy sherry notes. Not as maritime as an Islay whisky, more like beech smoke. You can do it, but I simply wouldn't expect it from Glendronach and for me it's not necessary.

Nose: a light smoky note, delicate, with fine wood notes, spicy Taste: almost like an Ardbeg, definitely the smoke. Young and fresh.
нос 84 · вкус 83 · финиш 82
Gentle bacon/burnt wood smoke, spices, caramel, chocolate, citrus sourness. OK to drink, not more. It is simply missing complexity for higher rating. Most likely, it is quite young. My guess would be 7-8 years.

| Нос | 83 | I like Glendronach much better without the smoke and in better quality Sherry casks than were used here... |
| Вкус | 84 | Nice chocolaty notes emerge. The smokiness/peatiness is less present here than in the nose. |
| Финиш | 81 | Short, some bitterness creeps in. |
(tasted against Glendronach 15yo Sherry Cask, 18yo Sherry Cask, Ode to the Valley, Ode to the Dark) Seductively sweet and slightly peaty on the nose. This impression continues on the palate: fruit jam, maple syrup, sweet marinated grilled meat, and smoked paprika. Notes of strawberry and blackberry, milk chocolate, and roasted nuts. A hint of charred oak, tobacco, and herbs. For a Glendronach, this is both atypical as a peated whisky, but also typical due to its sweet, fruity, and chocolatey notes. The alcohol is superbly integrated, and I consider this whisky a truly wonderful addition to the Glendronach range.
A pleasant and simple whisky with a touch of smoke and where the sherry gives a mainly orange flavour.
Very good but quite simple. You can see the Glendro. Well above the Sherry/Port

Simple, almost basic I would say, with little evolution and little to tell, especially in the mouth,

| Нос | 83 | Toasted bread hovers on the nose over the sherried aromas that follow its thread, with red fruits (sultanas, blueberries, blackberries) embedded in a plum cake, dried goji berries, prunes, toasted almonds, jaffa cake. The smoke evolves into vegetal tones, between shrubs thrown into a bonfire and incense, quite pronounced, against a background of liquorice, milk chocolate and toffee. In the distance, slight mineral inflections. Compact. |
| Вкус | 81 | The palate is rather light, with strings of black pepper and nutmeg on fruit (prunes, blueberries, blackberries, sultanas, blood orange), almonds, sweet liquorice, maple honey and milk chocolate, with touches of rhubarb. The smoke emerges in length, evident on the walls of the mouth at the end of the sip, always leaning towards the vegetal and incense. Saline streaks in length. |
| Финиш | 81 | Not very long and saline finish of spices, red fruits, liquorice, incense. |

I don't mind it. It's kind of your classic sherry and peat combination but dialed down – not heavily sherried nor heavily peated.

Pete to the expert
Young and fresh. It works quite well with the smoke, though. It has a certain smoked salmon moment on the nose. In the mouth, however, it's a bit scratchy and sharp. And the mouthfeel is rather thin. I'm not a fan of the sweetness that comes from the wet casks. It can briefly mask the lack of depth. Still, not a bad whisky. An easy sipper for cold days.

Got this at the distillery as a drivers dram. Not enough for a full review. That will come up later.
A well composed whisky where rich sherry fruit meets a gentle background smoke. The balance is very good and the nose is particularly appealing. The finish is somewhat shorter than expected, but overall it remains an enjoyable and approachable dram.

| Нос | 85 | Buttery caramel and oak. Red apple, leather and dried fruits (sultanas, apricot). Melon, blackberry, cherry and strawberry with brown sugar underneath. A fresh grassy/floral note keeps things lively. Soft woody smoke in the background with a slightly heathery character. |
| Вкус | 84 | Rich and balanced with a creamy texture. Sherried fruit continues with charred oak and a touch of menthol. |
| Финиш | 82 | Medium length. Turns slightly spicy and peppery with some controlled sharpness. |
The term 'Smoke' is not just marketing, it is definitely present. In the direction of caramel with smoke. The aromas are strong. Herbal chocolate in the finish. 71-80 – Fine, like to drink by time

It has a relatively high viscosity, and its bouquet is quite intense. I have aromas of raisin syrup, plum wine, vanilla, and campfire smoke. It's not particularly complex. It has a good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of flavor. The alcohol is well integrated, and it has a relatively heavy body.
Its not even bad, but i prefer that GD would not get into the smoky side of whisky.

Sweet sherry, but not much more. However, just opened and may evolve. Will give it a chance. Ode to the Dark much better. Open 24 hours. Sherry less obvious. A little heathery showing up. Ode to the Dark still better. Heather is actually peat, which is very much diminished, but gives it character. Sherry kind of middling. So, so. Tasted March 2026. Sherry and peat muted. I like the 15 year old 46% sherry cask matured much better. Tasted May 2026. I now think this is better than the 15 year old 46% and Ode to the Dark. Probably evolved somewhat. Subtle peat. 48.4%. Diluted or cask strength? In August 2026 about the same. Maybe still a little too much sherry influence. Compared to Ode to the Dark. I think better as less sherry influence. Certainly subtle changes.
The peaty flavor overpowers the sherry flavor. It lacks sweetness. The complexity is average.
