Undoubtedly good whisky, especially the pricing of this brand is not to be blamed. But, but... I somehow didn't fall on my ass, it just seems to me that every new year these whiskys get weaker and weaker. It reminds me of rum cask finish sweet tones in the taste, mild acidity and soft woodiness. At the end, a metallic aftertaste remained on my tongue, which slightly repulsed me....

Quick hit review. I did not mind the old Flintstone label, but yes, this new presentation looks much better. Fruity, malty and almost biscuity, the nose emphasizes pastries, strawberries and wood spices. It is very harmonious and rounded. The palate unfolds with raisins, dates and more berries before dark chocolate, marzipan and soft herbal notes chime in. This is dangerously drinkable. Sweet grapes, vanilla and gentle tannins subside in the medium-length finish. I am not disappointed, this is everything that GlenDronach should be (don't get me started...)! The nose is very fruity. Dark fruits, a forest fruit basket, and of course, sherry. The taste is initially very strong, briefly sweet, and then fruity. Pure sherry on the finish.

I believe this would be a perfect malt if it was 10 years old. With 12 years the cask slightly took over the distillate. Still a wonderful dram and I always enjoy it, but it takes effort to detect the maltiness, the barleysugar and the subtle grain notes in the heavy mix of nuts, fruits and sherry. For me Edradour 10 has the edge over this

Нос—Slight low-aged maltiness, prune, un-dried grapes, oily, honey I compared the leftovers in the glass after drinking it for 15 years, and the difference in quality is definitely noticeable.

Нос87There is some red sherry fruits here, but this is certainly not a bomb. With a bit restrained fruit the sweetness is neither too much. It's very chocolaty. Spicy exotic wood, soft tobacco, leather. The alc is not intrusive but can be sensed.
Вкус88Sweetness more noticeable here, with a light zest. And lots of good wood spices. None too hot, it's just right. But again it's so chocolaty, very dark chocolate. Black cherry jam.
Финиш89Past medium, close to long. It just fades slowly on the palate notes. Orange chocolate and thick red jam. When the spice resides there is still a good residual sweetness.

Just voted world single malt 2025 had to try it. Rich dark fruits sweet intense, chocolate, pineapple, figs prunes. Quite a complex malt gets better with time. Dominates heavy sweet rich sherry flavours. An affordable and good value malt.

One of the most balanced whiskies I have tried. This whisky has nothing to envy compared to others that are older. It says 46% ABV, but the alcohol is not so present as you would expect for such a high ABV. The whisky in the beginning is so smooth and embraces your tongue so well and gives you one of the best mouthfeels you can get from this kind of whisky. The aftertaste is there with a bit of bitterness but also sweetness as well. It has medium duration. Overall, this whisky is the most balanced I have tasted yet and can deal pretty well with older whiskies. It has nothing to envy, and if anyone says it is 15 years old and not 12, you will believe them.

The new standard from Glenallachie, with beautiful color and wonderful aroma! Old sherry, as usual from Glendronach, a beautiful sweetness, fine wood notes. Strong, fruity, sweet soda, old wood. It can be sipped quite casually, nice dram!

First pour and the nose hits you straight away — rich, buttery sticky toffee pudding, all warm and inviting. On the palate it's lively and bright — that lovely impression of fizzy sugar and smooth caramel, rounded off beautifully with just a hint of cinnamon spice.

Вкус—Sweet, yet on the right side. Alcohol is very disguised. Sweet cherries, plums, dried fruits. Above medium fill.
Финиш—Extremely easy and round finish.

Нос—Massively cask forward. There’s lots of cocoa powder, chocolate truffles and treacle, but also hints of ristretto, figs and dates. Then a slight tartness as well, not unreminiscent of a blackcurrant sour.
Вкус—The oak continues to put its stamp on here. Hints of pencil shavings, a pinch of pepper and surely ginger as well. But the coffee makes an encore too, albeit less strong, maybe more of a latte. Slivers of cherries too, but then also jammy dark fruits again, while there’s something slightly herbaceous hovering in the background.
Финиш—Medium length. Slightly bitter, somewhat tannic. Then chocolate again.

I love a "Christmas Cake" whisky and really wanted to like this. Yes, there's a strong fruit and sherry nose and taste, but the whisky is really harsh and hot. This unpleasantness overpowers the taste and it's just not good. It was better the second weekend - the oxidisation has levelled it out somewhat. £50 the bottle? "Best single malt"? No. Maybe I got a bad bottle, but isn't that what QC Dept is for? I'm still tempted by an older vintage to see if it's smoother, but there's feeling of the Emperor's New Clothes here.

An absolutely delightful Scotch. Very balanced, complex and exceptionally drinkable. I’m used to GlenAllachie’s 10 Year Old and other cask-strength releases, so at 46% this feels slightly light for my palate; if I could change one thing, I’d give it a little more intensity. That said, it is still impressively rich and full-flavoured, and I can completely understand why many people would find it delicious. For me, this is a near-perfect daily-drinking whisky: easy to enjoy, but with enough complexity to remain interesting. Colour: Deep brown.

Really sweet on the tongue, but becomes too sweet for more than a glass. The finish is a bit disconnected from the palate. Abruptly becomes a bit sour and ever so slightly metallic at the end. I can enjoy a glass of this whisky occassionally.

On the nose, quite dark and spicy with subtle fruit notes of red grapes and raisins. The palate is also very dark with strong notes of baked plums, dark cherries, and blackberries. I detect the sweetness of maple syrup and caramel, leading to burnt sugar and the bitter notes of charred wood. Various baking spices, pepper, and light hints of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and almost a touch of leather are also present. Similar to its big brother, the GlenAllachie 15-year-old, the 12-year-old is an exciting, very dark and robust whisky with a distinct sherry influence. Both bottlings share the same character, although the 15-year-old is even more complex and refined. I enjoyed both.

Нос76Pretty okay overall, but behind all this cask wizardry it does display a faint spirity character that I'm familiar with from less-than-optimal batches of the 10-year-old CS. Whereas some of the cask-strength versions make you wonder if there might be some older juice into the vatting, you don't think that here. It's a perfectly inoffensive young sherried nose, but the sample certainly does not inspire any desire to go out and buy a bottle. It feels to me as if the cask influence here is supposed to mask the deficiencies of the distillate.
Вкус79Here the different components come together more nicely. Very sumptuous, rich and sweet, forming a well-executed impression of dark chocolate. Reminding me of the recent Velvet Fig 12 in that way — but not nearly as classy. I guess the character of the distillate (that only comes through in flashes) really is not my cup of tea. Noticeably spirity and scattered, with the badly-integrated alcohol as a major distraction.
Финиш83Big notes of praline, fudge, and mousse au chocolat, with touches of molasses, cinnamon, and raisins. Someone once said that Billy Walker designs his whiskies with the finish as the biggest priority, and you can totally believe that when you try this. Pretty good for such a young whisky — but a boozy, alcoholic vibe remains.

Glenallachie's current 12-year-old standard bottling. Besides PX and Oloroso, virgin oak is also present. The color is correspondingly dark with reddish-brown hues. This bottling will typically be available for just under €50 by mid-2026. glen-efze.de

Нос—It's a modern whisky, perhaps even a bit over the top in every aspect. There are pronounced sherry notes with cherries and plums, along with spice and cinnamon. Everything is very distinct, not subtle, not hinted at. And the aromas unfold on a very pronounced base of spicy wood.
Вкус—The flavors are also intense. The alcohol is present, but reasonably well integrated. Fruit notes emerge, but the dominant element is a spicy blend of dark notes with cardamom and cinnamon, a touch of cocoa, and plenty of wood. Perhaps too much wood.
Финиш—The aftertaste brings fresh wood. There's certainly chocolate there, the truffle praline with cherry filling – but above all, there's oak, fresh, not too bitter – but too intense for 12 years. This is certainly an impressive whisky at first sip, offering very strong aromas, especially for beginners. However, for more experienced whisky enthusiasts, it lacks elegance and a better harmony of flavors, which, in my opinion, are not yet sufficiently interwoven. And I find the virgin oak, which dominates this whisky, a bit off-putting. For me, the whisky is a little too heavy-handed.

[I have to test it again - it has a strange alcoholic bourbon-glue note.] Tjo, modern sherry malt. It's well made, no question, but it can't really pick me up. I'm a little missing that special thing that you remember - if you ignore the typical GA 'spiciness'. In short: a generic 12 year old sherry malt for “simple” enjoyment. [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get (second) bottle? Maybe...] the sample is enough for me - bottle/print design or not, the content is "generic". This strange note of glue in the nosing deducts another point [stays the same]. [Post-test: the adhesive note is no longer as strong, but is still there; I still find cinnamon and nutmeg, otherwise the same... no significant changes]

Нос—initially a bourbon sticky note, which then turns into something powdery sugary honey-caramel-vanilla-like together with squishy, gooey raisins (could have been the PX component). Dark fruits appear, but they are not really typical dried fruits, they are simply fruits that have not yet dried completely. Something floral comes from the background, as well as a typical sherry spice; The tannins from the sherry cask were richly released. Very light nutty aromas, without being able to really grasp them, they seem rather diffuse. And always that alcoholic bourbon sticky note. Mmmmh, I find it strange, it should actually only be PX and Oloroso. Sherry, yes, no question, it's there with its aromas... but I keep coming back to that sticky note - strange (had a bad day?). Ok, over time juicy orange and lemon peel will appear.

Well, I like it, thick, full-bodied, rich, coffee-chocolate and it's not just a matter of changing the label. I'm FOR it. Glenallachie in this version did not disappoint my palate. ... for me it's in a class of its own.

Нос—... first sniff and... chocolate, chocolate with an orange aroma. Burnt brown sugar, toffee called gummy bears. Not bad at all. I bite into it... how do I "bite into it" - with my nose?. The right channel recognizes a trace of aromatized tobacco, and the left one sweetish honey in a dark color lying in the nostrils. Two at once feel quite dark fruits, sweet and sour plum climates. I won't mention raisins. Cherries, macerated cherries. In the empty one more marmalade, dark damp cellar, potato that the landlady forgot about, but he didn't. Light earthiness and a bit of heather. Enough and I go back to the full - it seems that the whole thing has thickened and a slight varnish note has appeared.
Вкус—... here we are greeted by peppery spiciness, tannins, dried plums and not necessarily Californian. From the exotic, figs with chocolate. It is cinnamon, thick, bitter and even coffee-like. Coffee of the burnt, sour kind. Grated nutmeg, cardamom crushed in a mortar. The second approach - you can feel the power as if cherries were taken alive from a spirit marinade. They are very dangerous when consumed, well they enter but can mess with your head. Thick, strong, specific flavors like plum jam fried on the day of the Plum Festival in Strzelce Dolne. Somewhere far away a light nutty aftertaste of hazelnuts. The whole thing is very accessible and drinkable. Let's move on to the finish.
Финиш—...sweet and sour at the same time, chocolatey, bitter and tannic. When almost everything has died down, there is still coffee and ... a dry tongue.

Overall, this is a well-made whisky. The sherry aromas are truly delicious and will make you want to quickly indulge in a second dram. However, in my opinion, the fresh casks are also very noticeable, which keeps giving me the feeling that there must be some virgin oak casks involved. This taste of fresh wood significantly lowers the whisky's rating in my opinion.

Нос84Aroma: A simple sherry cask scent, a not-so-specific dark dried fruit (a combination of salty wood and sweet and sour), spices, apricot, almond, mint and wood.
Вкус87Taste: Oily, malty (actually quite good to drink), smooth, but lacking a strong structure? Spices and aroma share the same sweet and sour dried fruit notes, with some fruity juiciness.
Финиш85Ending notes: Middle to lower, with a faint hint of grains and dried fruit.

Notes of red fruit and cereal alternate on the nose, complemented by a distinctive aroma reminiscent of a roasting house. The influence of the sherry cask lends the whisky a notably sweet palate. The style is very GlenDronach :)

Нос—Darker dried fruits with some cognac-like notes and raisins. Prunes and dried bananas, peach jam and bitter-sweet chocolate. Oak influence is more substantial, cinnamon and clove and blackcurrant jam. Aromatic flowers, and dark honey, some caramel and toffee. (water): raisins, caramel and toffee. More cognac-like notes, some aromatic flowers, prunes and cooked plums. Soft tannins, tart cherries and red apples, some red grapes and berries jam. Everything is nice and measured. Development is medium long.
Вкус—Dark, sweet and sour and cherry flavors. Red apples, tart cherries, black and red currants, dark chocolate and wood tannins. Development is quite long with sweet and spicy notes, more tart cherries and some prunes. Balance is very good, flavors are bright but rounded. (water): sweet and sour, with sour berries and dark dried fruits. Prunes and raisins, some figs and cherry preserves. Very soft spiciness and some bitter-sweet chocolate notes. Gentle tannins adding extra layer of complexity.
Финиш—Short to medium, dark fruits, fruit and berry jam, soft tannins and some spiciness.

The 12-year-old is the distillery's flagship product and was even awarded "World's Best Single Malt" at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards. Such an honor naturally raises expectations – not only regarding quality, but also character, depth, and distinctiveness. Perhaps that's why my standards were set particularly high.

Нос83The nose reveals classic sherry aromas: raisins, toffee, honey, and a hint of orange zest. These are followed by notes of milk chocolate and a moderate oak spice. Everything seems neatly composed and technically well-executed, but I find it lacking a distinctive edge or a particular depth that would clearly set this whisky apart from many other sherry-style whiskies.
Вкус83On the palate, sweet dried fruits, caramel, and a hint of cocoa. The texture is decent, but not particularly viscous or powerful. For a sherry whisky, it remains surprisingly restrained. It comes across as round and agreeable, almost tame. Complexity and development in the glass are present, but rather in the background. It lacks excitement and that moment that says: This is exceptional.
Финиш82The aftertaste is medium-long, sweet and spicy, and fades away relatively quietly. No off-notes, no harshness – but also no lasting impression. Conclusion: The award at the World Whiskies Awards 2025 underscores that objectively, many things have been done right here. It's well-made, approachable, and attractively priced for a sherry malt. Nevertheless, I personally can't share the overwhelming enthusiasm. For me, it remains too bland and lacks character to consciously choose it when I want to treat myself to something special.

Full nose, strong oak, sherry, chocolate. The alcohol can be felt… Oily, bold and with notes of tobacco. A clean note of malt. The taste is strong, spicy and sweet. Lots of oak, sherry… Notes of leather and tobacco… Light notes of eucalyptus… The aftertaste offers oak, dried fruits, allspice... Lovely long-lasting.

The Glenallachie 12 is exactly what you'd expect from this distillery: sherry! It's a successful standard bottling, offering everything you'd expect from a sherry-dominant whisky: dark fruit, wood, chocolate, and a touch of tobacco. It's not outstanding, but very solid. And it doesn't aspire to be anything more. It's Billy Walker, after all.

Нос85A sherry-like character right from the start. Plums, figs, and raisins. Malt is noticeable. Sweetness and a touch of acidity complement each other. Very well-rounded and pleasant; alcohol plays no significant role.
Вкус86Dark fruits, such as plums, figs, and raisins, also dominate the flavor. Cherry jam combines fruity sweetness with slightly tart notes. There's also a hint of wood spice, herbs, and menthol. More bitter notes emerge, including chocolate, walnut, a touch of tobacco, and a pinch of white pepper. The flavor alternates between sweetness and these more bitter tones.
Финиш85The finish leaves behind sweet plums and raisins, along with wood spice and nutty notes. It is medium-long and pleasant.

The sherry cask flavor is quite strong; the initial scent is just average, nothing stands out, but the finish is slightly sweet, which is quite nice.

A wonderful sherried whiskye from Glenallachie. If you like sherry matured whisky, this is a great one. One of the best in the class. For the price of 45 GBP, it's a catch.

It is good, but not that good. I will give this whisky a solid 85 / 100. I think it is worth a try, and it is a great whisky for non-beginner whisky drinkers. For the price you get a complex and layered whisky. Enjoy it.

Нос—Wow. Not what I had expected. It's not your tyipcal sherry bomb. It has a very prominent and strong wood note with various spices such as cinnamon and cardamom. Then dried fruits appear in the form of figs, raisins and dates. Lots of chocolate. A hint of vanilla and sticky toffee with honey. Very very sweet. A hint of espresso and black pepper. At the very back of the nose a hint of citrus can be found. Off to a great start eh?
Вкус—Syrupy, thick and oily. Just what I expected here. A very strong note of heather honey. Oak and pine nuts. Dried raisins, figs and dates. Cinnamon, cardamom and liquorice. Milk & dark chocolate. Espresso. Vanilla and sugar. Very malty. The distillery character (if there is one) is all but lost to the influence of the Oloroso & PX casks that are used here. It's sweet but not as fruity as you might think it is, it also has a few sour notes that are not really bothering but rather they try to balance the sweetness of the whisky. It has multiple layers and a great depth.
Финиш—Medium length. Very sticky, sweet. Honey, marmalade, caramelized oranges and figs. Espresso and dry oak with pine nuts. Spicy and dry at the end. Great.

COLOR: Chestnut, dark amber - an excellent "standard" 12 years - phenomenal quality for the money - great taste - significantly different (better) in taste and smell than the 2018 bottling - at 50€ the price is fully worth it
