Glen Scotia has a great spirit which is suited for many forms of maturation. This amontillado maturation has lead to a complex and friendly whisky with its of fruit (mainly red), an earthy leafy side, caramel and a gentle spiciness. Well recommended.

What is written on the label fully corresponds to the classic aromas and tastes of the declared aging barrels! The first nose is sour sherry. The second nose is sour oak bourbon. The third nose is washed caramel sherry + bourbon-vanilla pastry. The taste is very sour oak in sherry + smoke. Balanced tannins, rounded and pleasant. For this convincing and exaggerated acid, I even approve it for myself as the character of this whisky! In general, it's delicious! Nose - 22 Taste - 22 Finish - 21 Balance - 21 Rating - 86 In general, finishing the bottle - it's in the taste and in the finish - sour + very sour (wine) sherry + sulfur!

Regularly drinking Amontillado Sherry on its own, its my favourite style of Sherry for that matter too. This is one of the Whiskies with the typical Amontillado Sherry Notes coming through very much and very well.

Вкус89Right at the entry still acting older then 15y of age in my perception, then quickly "getting younger" and punching right on its actual maturity level. Less complex then the nose is promising, still very good, Glen Scotia Character, some early fruityness, maritime Notes, touch of smoke, wood.
Финиш90Loads of Amontillado, now getting drier and malt'ier, rather long for this medium body style of Sherry.

Great whisky, very solid. A drop of water calms its spiciness and alcohol bite. Some funky notes along with dark fruits in taste and long aftertaste.

I really enjoy Glen Scotia whiskies. If you get the chance to get this for under €80 and you like slightly peaty, salty and sherried whiskies - then go get it. It is absolutely unique and super complex. As some of the other reviews sad, every sip is a unique experience.

Нос89Roasted, honeyed nuts. Popcorn, both sweet and salty. some sweet gummibears. Some leather, accompanied by freshly rolled cigars. There is some seafood hidden in here as well. I'd say a shrimp salad with some limes. A tuna steak, grilled in Campbeltown. Dried game meat, could even be beef jerky. Some soy sauce, licorice and it is quite umami.
Вкус89Wow! Soy sauce, this is really funky. Again beef jerky, glazed with maple syrup. Some leather and that tobacco note again of wet pipe tobacco. Grilled walnuts. Some chocolate fudge cake. A lovely smoke note is in the background and is accompanied by BBQ sauce. Again this great seafood note. There is also some dark chocolate filled with different berries (blueberries, blackberries, rasberries)
Финиш87Very long. A little bit to bitter for my liking unfortunately preventing an even higher score. Don't get me wrong it is still terriffic. Dark berries again, followed by cocoa, espresso, maple syrup and tobacco. Melted dark chocolate for a fondue. Some seafood again in there. A little bit of BBQ sauce.

It's a very sweet and pleasant whisky. The sherry shows very well. It' not as peaty as most of Glen Scotias products. The lovely salty profile comes through in this bottle too.

Wonderful sherried whisky. While the PX-festival malt is a little more dirty with a smokiness this dram is kind of gentle. Wonderful to calm down in christmas time. Great mouthfeeling and integration of alcohol. Sweet and fruity but not too much.

Нос90Wonderful nose of ripe fruits, a little maritime, some caramel and wine gums. Further there are notes of sulfur, roasted nuts and in fact orange oil. With time flavors of leather and tobacco develop.
Вкус91Very creamy and sweet. Wine gums, a little salty caramel, fruity and at the next moment oily with a touch of metallic notes. Roasted almonds and just wonderful to drink. In my opinion this one doesn't need any additional water. The alcohol is wonderful integrated.
Финиш89Notes of oak and wood. Then bitter like espresso and dark chocolate. At the same moment sweet dried fruits and spices. Cinnamon and vanilla. Pretty long and creamy.

Glen Scotia is a distillery that fortunately has only been touched by the Campbeltown hype so far and that usually puts enough bottles on the market of their special bottlings so that they are not immediately sold out. There are 14,000 bottles of the 2022 seasonal release. After an initial maturation in 1st fill bourbon cask, this unpeated release was finished in Amontillado casks for 12 months. Amontillado is a sherry that first matures for at least 3 years under a yeast flor, protected from oxidation, and then undergoes oxidative aging for at least 3 more years. This should differentiate the casks from the usual seasoned casks in quality. glen-efze.de

I love Glen Scotia. It's clever, sweet, bit animal, often a bit lactic. It has such a unique taste profile, with a lot of cleverness. For me this is the best Campbeltown distillery of all :-) This 2022 seasonal release is great. It's leathery, but also animal, smells like shoe polish and tastes like wet earth with caramel. So much to discover, so much narrative. This is a beautiful complex whisky that allows you to sip and keep sipping. Every sip gives you something new and different. Love it!

Нос87A sweet and lactic nose at first with an animal touch. Shoe polish with a strong alcohol prickle. More sweetness, caramel, cooked fruit and a scent that reminds me of Knorr stock cubes :-) Very balanced, with a lot of thing to discover in the nose. I love it!
Вкус87Sweet and explosive with a spiciness that hints towards ginger. The amontillado sherry is there, reveling itself in something nutty. Nice. And there is more to discover. The nuts are sweet, like nuts covered in caramel. With a fruity touch... Like rhubarb (maybe even a touch of strawberry?). Decent complexity. And a lot of transformation. The fruits disappear and I taste red paprika, roasted onion. Oily in the mouth, hint of leather. Wauw.
Финиш85The finish is warm and relaxing. The sherry really opens up in the finish and brings us more nuts and lots of wood. Sandy, rather dry, bit bitter. With vanilla and leather. Then a hint of earth. Bit leafy as well.

06-30-2023. Nose with black fruits, spicy. Santiago cake. Baked apple. Honey. Smoky point. In the mouth, orange, candied orange. Pepper, spicy from the alcohol. Long finish with milk chocolate and pink pepper. Hazelnut hints. Cereal retro. Very full with an alcoholic touch at the beginning. 85'5

Following the initial tartness of red apple and orange, deeper flavors emerge—dried fruits and the rich bitterness of dark chocolate. A pronounced nuttiness adds depth. There’s also a noticeable saltiness, and as the taste progresses, a growing bitterness from the oak. The palate isn’t exactly "balanced"—the sourness, sweetness, nuttiness, and saltiness all stand out distinctly rather than blending smoothly. However, each individual note is intriguing and enjoyable, making the whisky a uniquely delicious experience.

A nice all-day dram that pairs well with the amontillado flavors on the nose. On the palate, the sherry aromas and the tartaric acid unfortunately take over and I have rarely had such a subtle yet barrel-driven whisky.

Нос87The sweet and slightly nutty Amontillado is subtly in the background. Then there are slightly fruity aromas of orange. The alcohol harmonises well with the quite young age, but the whisky is comparatively simple.
Вкус85Here the sherry influence is a bit too dominant and unfortunately covers the distillery character. Too acidic, too dry.
Финиш86The mouthfeel is good, a bit oily, the alcohol is not too dominant.

I breathed just a little and the aroma opened up nicely. The wine aging was great, drinkable, tasty, from the tasting of three GS samples, this one turned out to be the most successful.

A lovely sherried expression of Glen Scotia with a relative un- whackiness. A fantastic nosing whisky, a bit less convincing on the palate. Great character compared to many other 12 year-old sherry finished drams.

If I was only going by a single dram (the neck pour), I would’ve had a drastically different impression than trying more of the bottle. This is a good example of where the “neck pour” (first drams) are nothing like the rest of the bottle. It’s improved over time (2 months). This new Limited Edition Glen Scotia “Seasonal Release 2022” released at Cask Strength and finished in Amontillado Sherry Casks has turned out to be a tasty bottle, and a nice change from the more prevalent Oloroso or PX Sherry Cask bottles in the whisky world. There’s a nice nuttiness, some delicious salted toffee / salted caramel notes and a potent ginger spice kick. With a good retail price (compared to other “Limited Edition” releases), it makes the bottle even more appealing.

Вкус83Medium-thin viscosity, dusty, dirty, open farm, some coastal salinity. Hot, spicy ginger, the 53.3% ABV really shows up, slightly unbalanced, but it calms down by mid-palate. (Halfway through the bottle): Medium mouthfeel. Delicious salted caramel, spicy ginger that feels more tempered than the first dram. Some pleasant sea spray, seaweed umami, earthy mixed in with the nutty, salted toffee.
Финиш78Long. The spicy ginger is still felt long into the finish, some distant caramel notes. (Halfway through the bottle): Long finish. Lightly nutty, more tasty salted caramel, fading ginger spice.

Финиш87Very dry and short, but has a quick punch. Caramel is more pronounced and the saltiness lingers, if that is your thing. I do like a good salty dram and this along with the sweetness makes this a great dram.

Personally feel that this wine aroma is not aggressive, light vanilla cream + dried fruit + mixed dry spices aroma. The body is smooth, with some obvious vanilla flavors, along with bursts of nutty, spice, sea salt and maltose finish really long. The overall flavor is still relatively soft, and the alcohol is not feeling strong.

Glen Scotia 12 year old Seasonal Release 2022, SMSW, 53.3%. 30ml sample Nov 2023. Dull pale orange. Aroma is bread crusts, bubblegum, chocolate covered raspberries, woody with some building dates and raisin. Body is watery. Taste is plasticky, dark wood, raisin. Initially plasticky on impact, then yields some very pleasant ex sherry cask notes, but finishes to nothing – vanishing and thin on the finish. Not hot in the mouth but certainly warming on the oesophagus. Thin and a bit odd. 3.0/72 Water and a wait brings out a touch more red berry on aroma. The flavour opens up significantly. Still leaves a thin unpleasant red wine aftertaste but there’s a breathy pungent dark oak and char flavour before that. I’m not going to increase the score. I don’t think these casks have done the whisky any favours, frankly. Were they even properly emptied first?

blind tasting Good sherry on the nose, but also alcohol. Some sulphur. Sour Wine Gums. Sulfur is becoming more and more penetrating. Almost heading towards Madeira. The sharp alcohol note bothers me a bit. In the mouth, the dirty sherry cask pierces even more. It does have a fair amount of sulphur. Seems relatively young as he has relatively little to offer behind. But maybe the sulfur just irons away all the others. A bit metallic too. The wine gum comes back in the finish. Fruity. sour. Not particularly complex. Rather short. A touch of oak. I actually like those dirty sulfur things. But that's too monotonous for me. There is simply not enough behind it.
